Is it just Vodafone users who can't SEND emails through their Hotmail/Live account?
I can receive/download emails fine, but it refuses to send any.
Looking on the forums, it seems it's quite a common problem. So does this mean when the iPhone is supplied by Vodafone, the masses won't be able to use their Hotmail accounts?
Settings (same as iPhone: http://windowslivehelp.com/solutions/settings/archive/2009/03/30/how-to-setup-hotmail-on-iphone.aspx)
Incoming:Pop3 Server: pop3.live.com (Port: 995)
Outgoing:SMTP Server: smtp.live.com (Port: 25)
Advanced Settings:
Incoming Uses SSL: On
Outgoing Uses SSL: On
We have an issue at the moment where Hotmail have blocked our IP range, labelling them as SPAM IP addresses and thus preventing the emails from being sent. I strongly think this is what is happening here.
With regards to Live/Hotmail accounts being unable to send, this has been the way since Microsoft introduced free POP mail months ago. It's a security certificate problem problem with the Hotmail servers. Vodafone refuse to look into it - which is fair enough to an extent - but it doesn't stop their sales staff and marketing dept. pushing it as a feature, even though it doesn't work! The tech support from Hotmail is as you would expect from a free service - an absolute joke. Look through the Hotmail/Live support forums and there are numerous posts about sending with a mobile handsets. They just refuse to admit that the problem exisits despite the sheer volume of posts and doesn't look like it's to be resolved anytime soon.
