AA seems to kill it speedwise, but very nice lighting and shadows and physics in DX11. About 40 fps at my res. Will spend some more time trying to figure out what's different fom DX9.

well the option to enable tessellation is grayed out in dx9-10 only becomes available when you use dx11

thats a yes then cos the gtx260 cant even run dx11 where as you could with the 4890's..
david you must max out the settings and compare 4890 crossfire with the 5870 in DX11^^ lol
this is a pretty good bench i like it :)
in DX9 got 58fps score of 1460 so in this one DX10 doesnt give that much of a performance hit
the one below is a DX10 screen

Well card at stock and CPU at 4Ghz there was no way it was playable all maxed out. I feel a new card is in order if nvidia bring out anything decent.

Nice BM and some reassly nice effects (althoughnot sure of some of the DOF, but hey ho :))
Did a few runs (spec as sig - GPU @ stock) - the result which stands out for me (and I ran it twice) was the highlighted run @ 1024*768 and the hit in FPS that TEssilation appears to give @ low res
Ill do some more later :D

Continuing my comparative look at DX9, versus DX10 and DX11:
Familiar jaggy look to vegetation in DX9, looks like it needs anti-aliasing:
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/1893/grassesdx9.jpg (http://img96.imageshack.us/i/grassesdx9.jpg/)
DX11, which is not disimilar to DX10 on this one:
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/1854/grassesdx11.jpg (http://img9.imageshack.us/i/grassesdx11.jpg/)
I do notice that 4XAA exacts a 25% hit in DX11, but is hardly necessary anyway. More concerning is Tesselation exacts a 33% hit in framerate. I can get 30 fps at 1280X1024 or similar 1440X900, but the HD 5770 looks like it will disappoint at 1680x1050 and above. People with big monitors are going to be wanting to look at the HD5850 and HD5870, I reckon.

Or failing that; you can always save your benchmark score, open with your browser and then print screen. An example of this is David84's post #21.

imo.. with widescreen being a standard buy these days i think that 1280x1024 is a silly res and that 1440x900 should be used.. just my thoughts..
also just to note.. DX10 and 9 texture wise are identical but the major difference with DX10 is that DX9 had textured lighting and DX10 used dynamic lighting and its only an effect that can only really be noticed while in game/ but then again < i could be wrong :P what DX11 brings to the table with tesselation is that it can cont and cope with much higher counts of polygons and shapes and lines therefore is able to have shaped 3d objects in which are far more detailed in the third dimension than previously capable before.
personally i can see a massive difference between Dx9 and DX10 observe

if youre running windows 7 it will allow you to run it with DX11 and it will run with tessellation seemingly on but its not running.
in DX9 i couldnt take a screen shot like scrivs in DX10 i could however, it seems there are some bugs in this bench that need to be ironed out.

this is a very.. something limited benchmark. with a cpu oc to 3.8 and gpu oc to 960 i increased the fps in the bench by 1
i thought i saved the result but the exact fps was 39.9 with my cpu at 3.8 and 4890 at 950 core.
i think there must be a glitch of some kind when i tried to run DX9, ive just installed the driver so maybe i need to reinstall it or make sure all that nvidia stuff is off my pc or something
not really much of a performance hit maxed out at stock actually im confused about this< :S only a 2-3 fps hit when maxed out at higher res? whhaaat? :S

well im running vista and i keep most things up to date.. not had any updates for Dx9.0c though i play a fair few DX9 games so it cant be that... its prob just a glitch ill uninstall the bench and reinstall see if that helps..
EDIT<< yeh uninistalling and reinstalling helped.. you gotta realised i installed this with the gtx260 in and then swapped to the 4890.. not sure how that can affect it but it might have been the cause.
ps< what games have unigine been used to make?

No idea mate, although I hvae noticed that the becnh doesnt seem to increase with an overclocked GPU, ill try dropping the CPU back to stock (just quickly :P) to see how that effects things :D
system7
28-10-2009, 08:19 PM
You've only got to look at the bench to know it's GPU limited. Oveclocking CPU isn't going to help unless you have twin big cards.
Tesselation obviously hogs all the GPU resources. AA just slows things down here. DX11 is great tech anyway. :D

latest driverrrs< but as i said iv not installed the unigne since installing W7, i hoped to run a DX11 try but atm im too busy sorting my install out.. though IDK i might just rip out W7 ATM as its not really doing it for me last night i left steam installing some games but i awoke to a complete FAIL and i think my mobo bios crashed too i had to reset the cmos jumpers and do a system restore and since then steam hasnt been working and its bugging me esp cos my connex is well slow and it takes forever just to install the bladdy games!! <<< RRAGE
also < with the OC ok about 2-3 fps? IMO for a major cpu and gpu OC thats not really cutting it ESP cos i can now get my 955 stable @ 4ghz!

i think that with the 4800 series you dont get the performance hit of tesselation and i think it used the DX10.1 feature so it works out the same

HD5770, E5400 3.3GHz:

I've already got 1440X900 DX11 0AA 4AF Tesselation 30.0 757
{SAS}TB has 1920X1200 DX11 0AA 4AF Tesselation 35.1 884
Reckon we just need Naptha at Native Res and a few HD 48XX DX10 scores at your stock 1280X1024 4AA 8AF settings to complete the picture. :D

I did some testing on this bench in Task Manager, and found it surprisingly only uses 20% of the CPU on my dual. Terran Conflict or STALKER use 60-70% by comparison. Clearly very GPU limited, which explains the good SLI and Crossfire performance scaling.
Anyway, onto my point. Clearly DX11 and AA is impacting GPU performance quite hard here:

Whilst the HD 5770 matches a HD 4870 in DX10, when you turn on Tesselation, the framerate drops quite badly. 16 fps minimum is really quite awful and juddery at 1920X1200 on a HD 5770. I have a feeling that you may want to crossfire HD 5770 or HD 5750 at 1920X1200 in DX11 games. Happily, the HD 5770 seems a good match for my 1440X900 monitor.

its interesting though as the 48xx cards iirc have tessellators.. maybe ones just not compatible with DX11... :S
ah apparently the 4870 and 4890 have programable tesselators onboard but these tesselators are 15x not the 64x required by DX11< whatever that may mean... shame really as its still a completely unused feature on the ati cards :( i think i want to point the finger at nvidia and MS for that....
just reading some stuff and its possible that in DX11 games in future there may be low medium and high options for tessellation, and in that feature the ati 10.1 cards MAY< be able to run low tessellation if developers are pushed.<- wouldnt get you hopes up about that though

Worked it out... seems like the High Quality ATI software "Catalyst" is playing silly buggers!!!!!
By default the ATI OverDrive is enabled, which I hadn't noticed and whilst enabled every test eventually crashes...... diable and hey presto it works..... Going ot drop XFX a line to the support crew and see what they have to say.... Yeah, the 45fps in DX11 with tessalation I think was the computer wishing for the best!!!!
So what I have so far is as follows:
DX11 - 30.8 fps SCore 777
DX10 - 34.4 fps Score 867
DX9 - 40.5 fps Score 1021
Thought technology was moving on.. appears it's not as DX11 significantly slower than DX9......
That was as follows:
Binary:Windows 32bit Visual C++ 1500 Release Oct 22 2009
Operating system:Windows 7 (build 7600) 64bit
CPU flags:2799MHz MMX+ 3DNow!+ SSE SSE2 SSE3 SSE4A HTT
GPU model:ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series 8.660.6.0 1024Mb
Mode:1280x1024 4xAA fullscreen
Shaders:high
Textures:high
Filter:trilinear
Anisotropy:8x
Occlusion:enabled
Refraction:enabled
Volumetric:enabled
So this is the stock settings for my system.
Gotta say not very impressed with the ATI driver/software, they seem to crash as soon as you try to do anything with the card......
