XP Pro, Asus M2N4-SLi mobo, Caviar 500GB Sata2 HD.

I was using an ordinary IDE HD, and I want to reinstall Windows to my SATA drive. I have downloaded the latest BIOS for the mobo and the RAID driver. I remove my IDE HD's, insert CD and slipstream in the neccesary files on the F6 prompt.
In setup, I can create partition, copy in windows files, but when it comes to restart, the Mobo refuses to boot the HD, resulting in "Error - cannot find operating system". although the HD is the primary boot device. If I restart with my old HD's I can see all the files placed on the SATA. I simply cannot boot from it. Partition Magic cannot make the SATA the active drive and am beginning to think there is something wrong with it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Graham

do you have a floppy drive
put the file for the sata drive onto the floppy drive from the cd,
then, when you go to install windows on the sata drive just insert the windows CD and floppy drive, press F6 to load drivers for the sata and it should work fine.

That is exactly what I did. Install from CD, waited for F6, installed files from floppy, partition and copy windows files, restart, no operating system found.
