My son is at Bucks New University and studying animation. We intend to build a PC to suit his course and software needs that will last at least the full three years. :drink:

Does he as a student get any discounts off hardware and software?

If yes how do we go about arranging the purchase of all we need and what documents/proof of being a student will he need?

The hope is to start all this asap when funds allow so all help and advice appreciated. :rolleye:

Must add that my first telephone call to Novatech left me feeling very sure it is the company to deal with. The lass I spoke to was full of knowledge and very helpful. :hat:

Thought best to approach this part through the forum as customer knowledge together with the company knowledge should have all the answers.

Cheers :drink:

Could you ask your son what software he will be using over the next three years. The computer specification will depend heavily on what he is doing. Mainly if he will be doing a lot of rendering and 3d design.

He will most probably be able to get his software the cheapest through the uni itself.

As for hardware, i dont think you can get student discounts anywhere about from apple

Thanks for the replies on this. I did check with the uni I.T. section who confirmed our spec is very suitable for the course and software. Sent him an email with spec to be sure and not heard any bad news since. We had chatted over spec before emailing him so he was going to email back if problems.
There was some hope that there would be a discount scheme for students so we could cope with the budget a bit better but alas :-(
Will check out with uni regarding software purchase.
Thanks.

AFAIK, Adobe does student discounts for their products, i.e. from ludicrously expensive to actually affordable
