Hey all, I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

I have just done a clean install of Windows 7 on my Novatech laptop. All went well except in the hardware properties I have two Base System Devices and I try to use the update driver feature as it says it has no driver but it won't update. I have tried using the drivers disc I got with the laptop but that won't work with Windows 7.

Has anyone got any cunning plans please and thank you :)

If it's the graphics drivers I'd download them from their respective distributors, ie Nvidia or ATI.

Could you say which drivers are missing ie chipset.

If you could do a screen shot that would be brilliant. Just don't want to give you the wrong drivers.

Firstly thanks for helping me, I hope these shots help. It would seem that all the things I would expect to be in that list are listed so really don't know what the unknown ones are. Anyway the shots, if you need any more info please say.

Select your model from the list and then select others.
Install the chipset drivers first.

Forgive me for being thick but where do I find the model number please? Thanks

Edit I have worked out the number sorry Pete, so which other downloads do I need after the chip set? Sorry to keep bothering you

Your not being a bother. Are there two base system devices still?

That seems to have got rid of the exclamation mark and fixed the problem (I think there was a problem with their site last night as it was downloading empty files. Many thanks Pete, much appreciated. Just one more question, is it normal that my PC is listed as a device (as per pic in post above) seems an odd way of doing it.

Thanks again, PJ :drink:

Ahhh I seem to have a problem with the game Lord of the Rings Online. Before I installed Windows 7 I would get a frame rate of about 50 fps. I haven't changed any of the settings yet I am going alone and all of a sudden it goes down to 3-4fps and is unplayable. Have you got any ideas please ?

Thats perfectly normal.

Have you install your drivers from the manufacturers website ie Ati or Nvidia (I dont know what card is in that model). If not then uninstall the current driver and reinstall the new one.

Also is it a clean install of LotRO or have you just kept the install from the previous install. Might want to try reinstalling it if that's the case.

Hi Pete, I have updated my GFX card (Geforce 9800m GTX) and did a clean install on LotRO maybe I was just unlucky and it was a really slow internet connection this weekend. I will try your tips thought and report back, cheers bud. PJ

Pete, I have uninstantiated then reinstalled both the GFX driver and LotRO and it is still going from 40-50 fps to 3-4 it is driving me mad. Any ideas?

PJ

Grrr that site with the drivers aborts the download half way through, is there any other way to get the drivers? Not that I think is that which is wrong. I know it is only a PC and only a game but this is sooo annoying :(

On this page, click the 'Details' Tab, and then go the the 'Hardware IDs' field of the property drop-down box, you should be able to google the Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID) values.
Unidentified devices can very often be small ACPI devices, or fingerprint scanners etc that haven't been identified.

I have updated what I think are all the drivers but I am still getting a frame rate of 4-5fps in Lord of the Rings Online where as pre Windows 7 with the same settings I was getting 50-60fps. It is driving me mad, please can someone help?
