View Full Version : Avoiding being offered Macromedia Flash

When I visit a web-site that uses Flash, Internet Explorer interrupts my session to offer me the chance to download Flash. I don't want to.

Is there any way to turn this solicitation off? I really don't want the facility to slow down my Internet sessions in this way, and find that few sites using Flash use it in a way that adds value. OK, I can accept it to remove the irritating message, then delete it later, but I'd rather not let it on my machines in the first place.

Thank you. The problem now happens only on my NT4 machine, where Google Toolbar isn't supported. It blocks beautifully on later systems, and I'd become completely accustomed to it.

Less clear is WHAT is generating the popup. Presumably there's something in IE6 that's interpreting the HTML that invokes Flash and deliberately creates the popup. Firefox provides a warning about the missing plugin, but it's much less obtrusive, so I'll swap browsers.

Yep your right - there is a piece of code in the object tag that holds the flash that gives the website if flash is not installed.
