Can't even be that specific. All to do with mood...

Things with lots of nice bass are good for weekends...

A chillout evening will be lots of 60s acoustic tracks, Pink Floyd and things like that

Live : some crazy punk rock, the more american the better (Green Day etc) or Gomez

I like all my music...

Pantera - Floods
Godsmack - Running Blind
Godsmack - Sick of Life
Godsmack - Releasing the Demons
Korn - Freak on a Leash
Fear Factory - Invisible Wounds (Dark Bodies)
Boston - More Than A Feeling
Black Label Society Feat. Ozzy Osbourne - Stillborn
Disturbed - Prayer
Drowning Pool - Let the Bodies Hit the Floor
Cream - Crossroads
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
Pearl Jam - Jeremy
Iced Earth - A Question of Heaven
Iron Maiden - Afraid to Shoot Strangers
Journey - Don't Stop Believing
Kings of Leon - Fans
Linkin Park - Numb

Rob Zombie - Feel So Numb
Scorpions - Wind of Change
Skid Row - I Remember You

Really hard question. There are songs I like for the tunes, some for the lyrics and there again some tunes I like but the lyrics I hate. Depends on mood.

I can only do it by band and there again there are so many. Any good rock of the Pink floyd style. Non screamy heavy metal. Classical.

Conrad

Non screamy heavy metal.

If it screams it's not heavy metal. It's more likely to be thrash or black metal.

I've gotta agree with the earlier statement.

It's like in Hi-Fidelity when he's asked "what is your all time top 10?"

At the moment I'm playing a lot of Bloc Party, The Concretes, Wire and Eddy Temple-Morris's 'Dance Rocks' mixes 8)

Fave all time artist is Trent Reznor

Fave all time track is Judith by A Perfect Circle

Fave groovy track is 'Superstition' by Stevie Wonder

Planet rock is awesome! My sister has a DB radio which I steal occassionally when working on cars (the only time I ever listen to radio). I have fond memories of pulling the gearbox in one of mine whilst listening to, funnily enough, Judas Priest.
The only problem I have with stations like that is that they always play the most obvious songs by each band, in that example they were playing Breaking the Law. Obviously, a great song, but I always feel they never really get the point across by playing the most famous songs. If they had played Beyond the Realms of Death or somesuch I would have been happier.
And that's my main complaint with Van Halen, too. Everyone knows them for Jump, yet they have produced some absolutely magnificient pieces of work, and Eddie has proven himself such a guitarist, but without proper recognition because they've been labeled so badly for their cheesiest track!

If you like Planet Rock, and have a desire to listen to internet radio at any point (I do at work), check out Hard Radio.

fynn

Smokey Robinson has written more heart-wrenching songs than anyone on the planet, I reckon...

It was years before I actually listened to the lyrics of Smokey's "Ain't that Peculiar"... It sounds like Disco but is actually VERY Spooky.

You get these little surprises sometimes, like the holographic Doctor in Star Trek Voyager knocking out a ripping version of "Someone to watch over me" that just gives you a lump in the throat.

But tonight's selection is "Mercy Street" by Peter Gabriel: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WbweK9mVgw4

changes every so often, i tend to lsiten to songs to death and then get perpetually bored of them. currently it's a cross between 'i don't care' and 'the take over, the breaks over' both by fallout boy (an entirely sub par band, but 2 very good songs (imo)).

then i've got my old favourites like 'take on me' (odd one i know ) and 'land of confusion' originally by genesis as well as the remake by disturbed.

Like others, I find my "favourite ever" song varies as does my "favourite ever" tune. There are however songs and tunes that always hover there abouts and there is one track/version of a song that always gives me the best of both worlds.

That is a Planxty version of "The Jolly Beggar". It's a traditional song and the plot is a beggar comes knocking at the door, the daughter of the house takes him in, he steals her maidenhead, she believing he is some nobleman (some suggest it is a reference to James V of Scotland but I'm unsure about that...) in disguise and finds herself rejected. Perhaps ironically (and I'm not sure whether Planxty considered this) but one of the (trad tunes tend to pick up a few names) titles of the tune they follow the song with is "The Wise Maid".

Whatever, I find both the song and tune excellent in their own rights and have played the tune many times with others in pub sessions.

The song on its own (the instrumental bit they play here is just a "lead in" for the Wise Maid on the album) by Planxty is at

Hmm very tough one, but it would have to be one of:
The Jam - Going Underground
Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane
Stiff Little Fingers - Tin Soldier
System of a down - BYOB
A7x - Bat Country

I could name so many, couldn't pin point one song

Maybe "Just Like Honey" by The Jesus and Mary Chain or "Girls" by Death In Vegas. Both from Lost In Translation...my fave movie :-)

Can't pick one really. I like so many different genres. If I had to pick the song I have probably played most in my life, it would probably be a Prodigy track.
