Hey all,

I'm sure you get asked this question time after time and I assure you I have done some of my own research before posting here! I hope that puts me in good stead!

:D

Anyway, on to my query. I've just ordered the unit below from ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core2DUO-E6400-2GB-320GB-SATA-18XDVDRW-XBde_W0QQitemZ110112667496QQihZ001QQcategoryZ179QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Now this is my first new pc in the last 6 years and when I started looking into its graphics capabilites I found out this Unichrome Pro 3d rubbish is erm.... rubbish...... and not a graphics card at all!

Now I don't want to be spending too much money as have already forked out almost £400 for this. I know I can't buy some cheap card and hope it'll work so wondered if somebody could suggest something that would be a compliment to the above setup? I'd like it so I can play recentish games and possible even news ones such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Would be willing to pay around the £50 price mark though don't want to go much more higher? Is that even gonna be possible? Wouldn't mind buying used if I could find the buggers online!

:x

Could anybody make a suggestion? I know it needs to be "8x AGP" as that's the only slot on the motherboard but I don't understand a word of what I've read :?: I'm a console gamer....... please don't hurt me

Anyway, hope somebody can help me!

Thanks for looking!

Killian

basically, AGP X8 is the old skl slot.
still available in todays market, but not really focused on by gfx card makers.
whats the rest of your system by the way.
so we can help you spend the money in the right place etc

whats the max that you would go on price??

The specs are all on the link (am not being lazy but think you'd find it much easier to read from the site) but is running a core2duo and has 2gb ram if that helps. Seems to be quite fast though couldn really say as I don't have much experience in pc components.

Don't really want to be spending more than £50 - £70 really. Looking to be able to play some recentish games aswell as some old ones like the Theif series. Doesn't have to run at max aslong as they look half decent.

Hope that helps.

for that price look for a nvidia 7600 gs or if you can afford it a 7600gt make sure they are an agp part not a pci express :D

Ive looked at those but there around £80.......... is there nothing that will be half decent for around the £50 mark??

Can't really afford to spend 80 on a card when I'll only use it for the occasional games

As you are restricted by budget. Your best bet is to pick one out of these 2 lists that you can afford. :?

Nvidia (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/products/a850x1y0z1p0s0n0m0)

ATi (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/products/a851x1y0z1p0s0n0m0)

unlocking voids all warranties!
so does overclocking!

in a month or so nvidia launch a whole 8 series line, prices will plumit, would be worth waiting.

i dont know because the lower 8 series aren't as good as some of their 7 counterparts, just direct x 10

teknokid

yeah, but it'll bring the prices down.

if nvidia know whats good for them then they will keep the prices the same for at least the next month

low prices for 8600 parts, but thats £20 under the 8800gts
and comparable peformance to a 1950pro, which is about £120 isnt it?
so get a 1950xt which is about £150 and have great performance in all dx9 games :D
