Hey :D This is my first post here so please.. be gentle! lol
I bought a 7600GT on Monday 16th April. got it installed on Wednesday evening after work and since then my PC is been a red hot crashing machine!
I've installed the drivers supplied with the card and even updated them from the Nvidia site. It crash's up to 4 times an hour and every time i get a blue screen of doom i get told my Hardware was stuck on an Infinate loop!?!?! Anyone got an idea how to sort this or is this a Return to the shop job? im not a computer boff i dig holes for a living and built this machine 3 years ago as a hobby. Its been fine up until i upgraded my MSI FX 5500 to the 7600GT.
Im all out of ideas and would appreciate some handy advice.
Thanks
Mark

whats the rest of the specs?
what motherboard? is it AGP X8 compatable? can you change the AGP fast write? or the aparture size in the bios?
what power supply are you running?
does it crash when in safe mode?
is anything overclocked?

Motherboard is AS rock P4VT8 and yes AGPx8 compatible, i can change the AGP fast write on the bios, and aparture size is Default.
PSU is a 600w
P4 2.8
3x512mb 400mHz
80gb HDD,
creative sound blaster Live!
XP (SP2)
It didn't crash in safe mode but then i wasn't in safe mode for long.
Not over clocked anything, card, CPU, nothing..
Thanks for a quick reply! :)

okay, after a few more crashes i've decided to copy/paste them microsoft tell me to do, to correct the issue. I have done both and neither are working.

Follow these steps to solve the problem with a video device driver
You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly. This type of error is referred to as a "stop error." A stop error requires you to restart your computer.
Solution
There are two options you can use to try to fix the problem. If the first option doesn't work, then try the second.
Option 1: Install the most current device driver for your video card
* Go to the Microsoft Update website to see if there are any updated drivers for your video card. If there are any drivers listed, you should install them.
* If there are no updated drivers listed at Microsoft Update, and you know the manufacturer of the video card, contact the card manufacturer's product support service for assistance.
* If there are no updated drivers at Microsoft Update, you don't know the name of the manufacturer of the video card, and you need more help diagnosing and resolving this problem, contact your computer manufacturer's product support service.
Option 2: Manually decrease Hardware Acceleration for your video adapter
This procedure prevents the display device driver from programming the hardware incorrectly, but you might lose some display functionality and performance. Although you can increase the hardware acceleration settings to regain functionality and performance, these settings increase the chance that the issue will occur again. For maximum stability, leave hardware acceleration turned off.
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
3. Click the Troubleshoot tab, move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None, and then clear the Enable Write Combing check box.
4. Click OK, and then click OK.
Note: This procedure prevents the display driver from programming the hardware incorrectly, but you may lose some display functionality and performance.

i bought it the same time as card. I didnt think my old 350w would cope to well. its http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... NOV-PSU600 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-PSU600)
Also took the 7600GT out this morning, put back in the old FX5500 and no crashes as yet.

i believe we have found your problem, sorry to say this but that power supply is naff  it will run at 600w in the antartic it is probably about the same as your old power supply see if you can return it and get either this one http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?TT-W0089 or this one http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?HYP-4M530 i can personally vouch for the second one, i have it in my system and have had no trouble with it .The first psu will be powerful enough but if you are looking to upgrade in the near future go for the hipe

to be honest, I think i've wasted enough time with this card. Im not happy and think im gonna return it. And the PSU as you say it's junk. The Machine ran fine before i decided to upgrade... just stick all my old stuff in and carry on as b4 :)

its just the power supply, thats what people dont understand.
you need a decent branded power supply to run computers
but, whatever makes you happy

i just pulled the Sound Blaster Live! card hoping the onboard sound would wor. With the Sound Blaster card in, In Headset i would get the sound/hiss of my system starting up but no sound when the windows welcome note comes on.
i'll continue to look for a driver that works.
Thanks for all the help so far :)

seems odd it doesnt work. have you tried installing the driver, then putting the card in?
Have you tried disabling the on-board sound in the BIOS when you install the Soundblaster ?

hi guys,
Sorry for my absence (holiday, work, accident and 2 kids Birthdays in a month) but this sound issue kinda resolved itself... Dont ask me how.. It just came on 1 day..
But since the sounds is fine.. my FPS is all over the place :( Its not over clocked, i play games like CSS, WoW, SWG and a few other non online games. for 5 mins its 60FPS and then all of a sudden 1-4FPS for a short period... then its up again, then down! i've got no clue.. oh and i did replace the PSU for the Hiper 530w.
Pentium 925 dual core http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ?IL-PPD925 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?IL-PPD925)
With a http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... AC-FREEZ7P (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?AC-FREEZ7P)
ASUS Motherboard http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ASU-P5PEVm (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ASU-P5PEVm)
2x512 (400mHz)
Hiper 530w PSU http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ?HYP-4M530 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?HYP-4M530)
The card itself is http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ?nov-76gta (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?nov-76gta)
The Temp's are all low mid-to high 30's.. CPU is 39'C
Any advice is much appreciated.. :)
Glad to hear its sorted. :)
The slow down you are getting could possibly be down to lack of memory. While the pagefile (aka swapfile or virtual memory) is being rewritten (swapping data from the RAM to the Hard Drive) it can take up a lot of resources. If you open the Task Manager while it is doing this you will probably see that the pagefile usage is very high on the graph. You also may notice you Hard Drive is thrashing while it's happening.
Try setting your pagefile to 1512MB Initial & Maximum (1.5 times the amount of RAM you have).
To do this go to; Control Panel  System  Advanced  Performance Settings  Advanced. Click on Custom Size and enter the above amounts and click Set. You will need to reboot after.
This may make a small difference. If these are the symptoms I would guess in the long term you need more memory.

the RAM is physical memory
The hard drive has a space which can be made larger, for virtual memory.
virtual memory is slower than physical memory
