View Full Version : Items I want to purchase but I've found much cheaper elsewhere (unfortunately!)

Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my computer some time soon. It will depend on if I can get my current parts shifted but I want to get a Core i7 920 and a motherboard and RAM to suit. The problem is, I've found the counterparts cheaper on another website and by quite a bit. The motherboard is around £20 more on Novatech and the CPU is roughly £17 more expensive. Now, that is a 10 to 15% difference in price in some cases.

Is there anything that can be done about this? I would prefer to shop with Novatech but a total of 10% more to pay, I might have to sway the other way.

The RAM I would purchase from you as it is as I can't find anything decent elsewhere.

Please get back to me regarding this situation. Take it to PM if need be.

Kind regards,

TMDD.

by the other website, are you sure that includes shipping etc?

Shipping would cost £7, still around £30 cheaper than from Novatech! :(

That really is a bit of a difference - and so is unusual as we try to be as competative as possible. I can't help you directly with this (I'm aftersales/tech support as opposed to sales/pre-sales), but I can certainly point one of our sales/purchasing guys in this direction to see what they think -although I can't promise a price match as sometimes it just isn't do-able.

Morning Mike,

Yeah it is quite a difference indeed. I really hope that I don't have to purchase from the competitor as so far my entire three rigs at home come from Novatech and so does my friends computer that I set him up with a few months ago!

Thanks for pointing someone this way. I look forward to their response. I understand that a price cut isn't always doable.

Well, I would pay the extra 10% if this came with better customer support as is the case with nt. I am sure we can find lots of items cheaper elsewhere but expecting for one shop to have EVERYTHING cheaper is not realistic.

Is the other supplier one that is trying to win business on price alone.

If this is the case then it is an issue as good customer service and tech support teams combined with retail stores add costs to the business that is reflected in our prices.

We are not the cheapest but I feel we offer best value - a combination of price and service. If the other supplier has equal levels of service and support then they would appear to offer better value. If they do not then they are just cheap - cheap will often lead to poor quality of service and a lesser customer experience.

Just out of curiosity it is not a supplier where an ex Novatech employee has gone to work is it and if it is have they won any awards for delivering excellent value ????

The thing is, I have bought from them before because Novatech didn't have the item in stock. The quality of service I received was very good. I've only dealt with them once but I am impressed so if I have to pay 10% extra just to come to a more local store, I think I'll pass as £30 out of £300 is QUITE a bit!

And no KP, it isn't where an ex employee has gone. :)

meh, you can't expect Nt to be cheapest on everything - they aren't exactly a massive, massive company, there are bound to be cheaper places. But the special deals, like, last week I grabbed that Saumsung 2233bw for only £142, where at Ebuyer(for example - another place I shop), it is priced at £149. This might have been this way for like 4 months or something, and their quality of service isn't the same - I mean, there isn't a live chat, if you ring them, there is some geordie girl who doesn't know a thing about computers, and they don't have a nice forum where the fellas you speak to every time you order actually bother coming on to have a chat.

As Kp said, it's quality of service you are paying for. Sure it might be £30 more now, but in 6 months time where the other places price is the same, Nt might be £10 cheaper than that even.

You gotta grab the deals at the opportune moment.

I was looking at getting a gigabyte P45 motherboard earlier in the year (a UD3 iirc) but NT was way more expensive than anyone else at the time. it ended up being irrelevant as when i actually came to buy, they had all vanished from everywhere (i swear they were on the shelves for like 3 months...)

I wouldn't. I have phoned twice in the past and both times got price matches from elsewhere. In fact they generally bettered the prices elsewhere.
