I'm looking to replace my five year old PB as it seems to have consistant problems and take a lifetime to do anything. In the last five years I've become a full time freelance photographer and spend too many hours working with RAW file converters and editiing in CS2/3.

So firstly I need to say I know nothing really about computers so any fancy talk will go over my head.

I am looking to get a new system that will the run the likes of Photoshop CS2/3 effortlessly in other words when I click a button it happens instantly and not half a minute later, even 50Mb TIFFs. I'm also looking for as good a graphics within budget to, how much this depends on the PC I dont know. I dont do any gaming.

Heres a basic list of things it must do:
Photoshop and other photo editing/browsing software
Internet
Word
Publisher
CD/DVD burner
DVD player
Music Player
Virus etc software

I'll run a couple of external HDs off it for photo image storage.
I'll also need to get a monitor that must be A1 quality.

So what do you recommend? I was going to go for a Mac but realised I dont need to (please no Mac vs PC debate). I would prefer a laptop but I would need an external monitor to fall within budget and I get the impression you can get more with a desktop (I may be wrong). My budget for everything including system/software/externals/monitor would be around £1000, do I have some change or am I dreaming?

Cheers
