I recently re-installed windows on my computer when it was finished i checked the device manager section and the following had a yellow question mark next to it:

"Ethernet Controller"

I tried to update the drivers but windows says that it cannot find them. I used the motherbaord cd that came with the computer and it cannot find the drivers using that cd either.

I was wondering if you know where i can find the drivers. My motherboard is the foxconn P9657AA

Thanks in advance

Try the Foxconn site HERE. (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/service/downloads.aspx?Model=P9657AA-8EKRS2H&DownID=en-us0000004)

Copy the appropriate LAN driver to a CD-R, load it to your desktop, and direct Device Manager to search in that folder. Or find something called setup. You may find this works with a second stab at your supplier Foxconn drivers disk too.

Thanks for the help

I tried redirecting the setup to the folder on the disk and it says the following:

"The hardware could not be installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software".

It says the same thing when i dowloaded the drivers from the foxconn website. The weird thing is though when i plug in my router to the ethernet connection, the other computers in the house can pick up the connection but the computer hosting the router cant.

I was wondering if i used another computer to host the router and used the wireless network card for this computer, would it solve the problem tempareraly as regards to the computer with the problem using the internet.

Thanks in advance

Carl, I have no experience of Wireless routers.

But can you describe the setup? I thought we were talikng about an Intel LAN connection through ethernet. Is this a PCI wireless adapter card you are trying to configure here?

The motherboard info is curious. The LAN driver is listed as Intel, but the specs say GbE LAN with Marvell 88E8056 (PCIe). You could look for the LAN chip which is usually near the ethernet port. It is not unusual for manufacturers to vary products. :?

I use an ethernet connector to connect my router to the computer. But without the drivers for the ethernet the internet doesnt work on the computer but the wireless signal from the router gets picked up by the other computers in the house. Thought it was a bit weird since the drivers werent working :S

So this is a problem with the ethernet controller...

You really need a positive ID on the chip here Carl, since the driver is problematic. Look for something like Gigabit Ethernet Marvell Yukon 88E805X with a magnifying glass if necessary. The manual may help. :)

Then you can check it is enabled in the bios. And try installing the driver with no router connected. It could be a faulty LAN chip or the wrong driver supplied. There are plenty of drivers to try at http://www.marvell.com/

You can also have a look at the drivers folder, which I am sure you unzipped, for clues. You have the right to expect this to work out of the box, but any detail you can supply to technical support will help you get a fast solution. A LAN card is the sort of alternative most people would try unless they were RMAing the board and software disk. The faulty LAN can of course, be disabled in the bios. I have used USB as an alternative in a situation like this.

I spoke to the novatech technicians today and they have sent me some drivers thorugh the mail which should arrive later today.

For any reason that those drivers dont work you mentioned something about a USB as an alternative?

Did you mean a USB wireless adapter instead of a PCI adapter?

Thanks for all the feedback by the way :D

In the device manager, if you right click on this yellow bang item and select properties.

Then select details.

In the drop down box make sure that it says "Device Instance ID"

In the box below will be some text.

Please POST that text to us. That will allow to identify exactly what this item is ( Make and Model ) and make sure you have the correct driver.

The text is the following:

This is Marvell Yukon LAN Controller for sure. There should be no issue using driver from Foxconn CD or latest version from Marvell yukon site.

What OS are you using???
