My tv is now 1yr old and yesterday it decided to turn itself off into standby and then turn itself back on again!
I replaced the batteries this morning with some I charged last night. Today, the tv has placed itself into stanby and back on again twice so far.
Do I need to call the Most Haunted team or do I have a problem with the tv?
Any help much appreciated (regarding the tv not the most haunted team).

After writing this last night, I removed the batteries from the remote in case the remote was somehow faulty - Nope, the tv switched itself off 2 more times again last night and once this morning!
Do I need to call Novatech to report this or Atec?
The tv is only 1yr old so is still covered under a 2 year warranty.

At this stage in the warranty it would probably best to speak directly to Atec Warranty Service as they will be able to assist you better with this issue.

Thanks for the response.
I called the number given in the Warranty sticky, they're sending round a local engineer to see if they can rectify the problem.

Just thought I would let everyone know who owns an ATEC LCD TV;
If a fault occurs and the engineer has to take your tv away to repair it, prepare yourself for a long wait!
Mine was collected by a local company via the Keyservices company who look after the warranty on Friday 18th May. It is still in the shop waiting for the parts to arrive from ATEC (5 weeks this Friday).
If you need to call Keyservices, don't expect your call to be answered once the receptionist put you through. I tried countless times and in the end I had to leave my details with the receptionist. They then contacted my local tv company who in turn called me to arrange a time to visit.
A plus side to Keyservices is they will respond to your emails within 24hrs.
My gripe here is with ATEC. I don't understand why it is taking sooooooo long to send the part out. If anybody can offer a suggestion as to why it is taking so long, it might put my mind at rest.

Hmm, I wouldn't consider that an acceptable level of service from ATEC, and it appears it is causing Keyservices some issues also.

If you can provide us with an Order number I can get someone to look into this, find out what's going on and get back to you with a hopefully speedier resolution.

The saga continues.........
I didn't get any feedback from Novatech after the offer to chase for the part. Maybe he's on holiday this week.
I left a call-back request with Keyservices yesterday (http://www.ekey.co.uk if anyone else is in a similiar dilema). They called me back today to say they did not know how long the part will take to arrive and were becoming as frustrated as myself as to the amount of time this has taken. They suggested calling the company I purchased the tv from (Novatech) to see if a replacement could be authorised (Currys will do this if the process takes more than 28 days - I'm on 39 days so far).
Called Novatech customer service this afternoon regarding the above. I have been promised a return call tomorrow to say whether this will happen or not.
For anyone who is interested or in a similiar dilema, I will let you know the outcome as and when something else happens.......... fingers crossed.

hi i have the exact same problem, our set kept turning its self on and off, it got taken for repairs the same time as yours, we are still getting told they are waiting on parts... plus the replacement set they have loaned us to use worked for about 2-3 hours and now dont switch on, we just seem to have hit a brick wall, they refuse to take the faulty set so we have had to borrow a tv from someone else!

we have just recently sent emails to both the UK and Korean headoffices to see whats going on.

Its surprising that someone is having the exact same problems, with the exact same Set, i am sure that there are other people out there with this problem

I don't know if this guy still works there, but I had dealings with him last year. He does his best to chase things up if it is Atec Korea holding things up. His english isn't too bad either.

Hope things get sorted for you.

Well it looks like my prayers have been answered. Novatech are going to replace the tv tomorrow and take the faulty one away.
A big thank you to Novatech for resolving this problem quickly for me.
Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong with the new one, but if it does, lets hope Atec are more on the ball.
Good luck to anyone else with the same or similiar problem with their Atec tv.

Sir,

Apologies for the delay in getting this sorted for you. It can take quite a while to get the right information from the repair company and organise a suitable replacement/repair as required and to then arrange for your original to be processed as required which is speeded up with the reference number supplied.

I hope all is well with your replacement :D

Just got off the phone with Novatech. No tv sent out today!!!!
For whatever mix-up it was, the tv will now be dispatched tomorrow and arrive on Monday!
The Novatech operators are polite and helpful but talk about p**s-up in a brewery!

TV arrived nice and early this morning. I am now a vey happy man.
Can anyone answer this question - Now that I have a brand new TV, will the warranty be for 2 yrs from now or 2 yrs from the 1st tv?

The warranty usually goes from the original invoice date, regardless of whether we have replaced the unit or not. However, we do guarantee the work carried out on a product for 3 Months. So if it just goes out of warranty but is within 3 months of us repairing or replacing it then we will usually arrange something for the customer.

Hi there,

My 37" has started doing this too. I use it as a monitor with a Home Theatre PC running Windows XP Media Centre. The TV seems to switch off, then turn on again after about 5 seconds. There is no 'going to sleep' message or anything, just a blank screen. When it turns on the 'PC' input icon turns on and away it goes again. This seemed to happen every 45 mins or so last night...

The TV was purchased in March 2006 - so still covered by the two year warranty. Problem is, we are moving to New Zealand in less than 6 weeks - so I need this sorted straight away.

It's obviously a known and common fault...

Who should I contact and how do I ensure I have my TV back in 5 weeks or less!?

Thanks,
Danny

Well Guys and Gals

I got the same problem, my ATEC 37" keeps switching itself off and then back on again. It deffinitely happens more frequently when I have been using it in High Def mode ie when using the Xbox360 or HD-DVD, when just watching normal DTV it happens maybe once or twice a night.

But I can't wait to get involved with the service people judging on your responses above.

I have had mine almost two years and this has started recently

Will my set be replaced also????

What is good for one customer should apply to all

Ive had the same problem,

My 1 1/2 year old 42' Tv was picked up on the 3rd of april and came back 3 weeks later and started turning itself off again within an hour , although they told me they had tested it in their workshop and it was fine.

They took it back a week later and now im still waiting just over 4 weeks later. Ive rang them twice this time round and i just keep getting fobbed off. Apparently the part they were waiting for was dispatched to them on the 9th of May which was 20 days ago.

Im ringing them again tomorrow along with Novatech to see what can be done. I wouldnt have wasted my money if i'd have known about this problem with them in the first place and i certainly wont be buying anything else with an Atec tag on again.

absolute rip off

To be honest, I don't buy anything that I don't know isn't good quality, if I was you.. I would do RESEARCH before you go and fork out on a new tele ;) I know I don't always do mine when searching for problems but it is the best way to make sure you are getting value for money.

Also compare Contrast Ratios and if it is 1080P or 1080i you are buying. Make sure that you can get a shop where you can have the two more or less together so you can see how well they perform against each other, that is the advice I have been given by one of my cousins. When my family starts to look for a new tele :) can't wait.. :D

I have an ATEC 42" LCD TV that seems to be doing the turning itself on and off again trick. It will be 2 years old in August (I think) so still in warranty. However we are a forces family and currently posted over-seas in Portugal. Does anyone know if there is any hope of getting this problem fixed or is it time for a new TV (not ATEC again lol).

Hi All,
I cant believe how many posts there are on this same issue
Has anyone had a satisfactory resolution to this problem, I purchased the Atec 42" Lcd and its still within warranty, the past few months it has been turning itself off for 5-10 secs then back on again, at the beginning it was happening about once every 4-6 hours but now its every 2-4 mins which is extremely frustrating,
It seems to be a very common problem with sets bought around the same time, I have contacted novatech tech support and am waiting on a reply, anyone have any idea how to get a speedy resolution?, its driving me nuts!!!!!!!

Can someone please explain exactly what causes this problem? My ATEC AV370W TV is 27 months old and has just started displaying this problem.

Is it a costly repair? Can it be self repaired?

Cheers,

Orca

Hi

Just an update ... and a good moan.... tv went to shop to get looked at last thursday.... they delivered it back today saying they have had it running for a week and it hadnt shown any fault at all and hadnt turned itself off once I asked had they checked out all the connections and everything and they assured me they had, and were confident it was fine  . We got it back today and it has turned itself off and on again 17 times in 4 hours  , Can someone please explain what is causing this to happen :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I've found a possible solution.

I managed to get a few hours of uninterruped watching and so instead of switching off at the switch, I put the TV into standby. Since then, I've had no problems.

Has anyone else tried the same thing?

Hi, Well tv is back in the repair shop and this time they have seen the fault happening, There is a part on order from Key electronics andthey seem to think this will resolve the problem, Have no idea how long it will take to receive the part or complete the repair but will keep you posted to see if this actually does resolve the fault!!

Have to say putting the set in standby instead of fully turning off the power did help in that it turned itself off not and on again only maybe a few times every hour instead of every 5-10 mins but didnt fix it altogether!!

Well at least they're sorting you out, which is nice. I hope that you get it back soon, shouldn't take too long hopefully. I would expect two weeks at the most.

Hi, Only just joined this forum so just picked up on your problem. I had exactly the same fault with my ATEC 37" at start of this year. TV was taken away by ESV Service Centre, Harlow in Essex. (01279 422 700) they had to keep the set for 6 weeks as I was going out of the country. They told me it wasn't till the week before i returned that the set switched itself off and then on again when they could see it. They then identified the fault as being with the LCD screen. This was replaced and I've had no problems since.(fingers crossed.) Hope this helps.

Novatech have been very good though I must admit especially Jon Hudson & Matt Fowkes. They have gone out of their way to try and resolve my issues.

Hello, Please somebody help. I have an ATEC 42" LCD TV and we are now experiencing the same symptons as discussed above. The TV switches itself off, then on again at random intervals. Does anyone know who i need to contact to get this repaired. The TV unit is out of its warranty period. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

My TV has now packed up entirely and just shows an orange light on the power LED

I've put it on ebay as spares or repair if anyone wants it.
