I need any info, hints, tips or pointers on how to link my desktop and lap top to a wireless network through the NTL cable modem that Ntl supplied. (the modem is model 08004EU NTL:200 if that helps).
Can anyone tell me what the best kit to get and the best way to connect.
Ive asked NTL and they tell me that they "dont deal with this as its a specialist subject"
so any specialists out there?

You will need a DSL wireless router. This connects to your existing cable modem with ethernet cable and your PC and laptop join this to form the network.
You can choose either a cable or wireless connection forany computer you wish to attach.
This (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?LIN-WRT54G) will do the job.

Could you recommend a dsl modem that will either take over from or work with the NTL modem supplied

You must use the modem supplied by NTL. You cannot just plug any modem in to an NTL line. It has to be one there system supports and is configure by them to work on there network.
The Router gwendes suggested to you could be used as the NTL modem rather than plugging in to your PC would plug straight in to the router and then your computers would then also connect to the router via wires or wireless and would then be able to share the internet connection being provided by the ntl modem.

I have a PC connected to NTL broadband & wish to network it with a laptop.
If I used the Router mentioned above, could I plug it into the cable modem & also the PC, whilst using a wireless pci card in the laptop, or would I need a wireless adaptor card for the PC as well?
Also, how can I tell if there's space in the laptop for a pci card?
I'm not sure if I have to remove the existing DP83815/816 10/100 MacPhyter PCI Adaptor.

If the router is wireless but you can still have cabled connections, then you connect the pc with cables and laptop wireless, they dont have to be both the same connection

Thanks.
What about my laptop, though?
Do I need to take something out before I put a wireless notebook adaptor pci in?

If the laptop came with built in wireless then you dont take anything out
But if it didnt then you can buy a usb wireless adapter stick

There lies the rub - the USB ports don't work anymore, don't know why.
Laptop doesn't have a wireless adaptor.
So I need to set up without the use of USB ports.
If that's possible.

That is possible, but you would have to get a pci adapter fitted, go to any pc shop and they should do it for ya (if your not too confident about doing it your self , that is)

If your USB ports don't work on your Notebook you coulod always try a Wireless PCMCIA card.
Once you have a wireless unit connected into/with your notebook it should just be a simple "set-up" with the wireless router.

The poster above has the best idea the PCIMCIA card is a good bit of kit as even if you USB ports worked it would not use up yet another slot.
