Recently bought a new PC, and, as I didn't want to wait for a pre-installed one to be delivered, I also ordered a copy of Vista. However, it goes through all the screens installing it, reboots and then just hangs. Tried this a number of times and it never completes the installation. After the first reboot it lists all the previous install attempts, says 'please wait a moment while windows prepares to start for the first time' and then goes to 'completing installation' where it hangs. Initially it did error on verifying DMI pool data at this point but doesn't now!?

Someone from Novatech support sent me a '945GZ BIOS flash' CD but it doesn't look to be formatted on another PC (should it?), it certainly doesn't do anything when I try and boot from it. The version of VISTA says it's an OEM System Builder Pack intended for system builders only and needs an 'OEM Preinstallation kit'?

Anyone any ideas what is going on as I'm missing WOW!!! :x

Not sure if this is BIOS related or not. Please confirm what BIOS version you have from the POST Screen.

It should start 651F1xxx ( *** = Version )

Please can you confirm current version you have.

When it powers up it says 'press Tab to see POST screen' but if I do that it just flashes up and then continues before I can read it. On the Setup menu on the Standard CMOS Features menu it says

BIOSID 945M03.00.F1.P.14 - is that it?

If it comes up to quick to read, then hit the "Pause/Break" key on your keyboard. This will freez the current stage that you are at. then if you want to carry on, hit any keys to contune.

Yep, thats just as good and this shows it is going to be BIOS issue.

Vista is not supported with this BIOS version. It will need to be updated in order to provide Vista support and allow for install of Vista to complete.

You can download BIOS from link below and extract the contents on to bootable device and then boot from the device and run flash.bat

or

You said you were sent a CD which should have been bootable and normally they are so not sure about why the one you had was not.
If you would like me to send you another one of those instead please drop me an email at john.cooper@novatech.co.uk with your name and postal details and i'll get that made, checked and sent out to you ASAP.

Coming up with message

File name to Program : 651f1p43.bin

Flash ROM is Write-Protected

Please make sure whether lockout jumpers is set to correct or not

945GZ does not use jumper but has BIOS soft protect

Please enter the BIOS

Enter the "Fox Central Control Unit" menu

You should see an option called "Super BIOS-Protect"

This is most likely set to Enabled which would prevent a BIOS flash.
Set this to disabled and then exit and save the BIOS

You should now be able to update the BIOS.

Checked the super BIOS-protect and it was already disabled. Tried again and this time it worked - very odd. I have now managed to load Windows Vista so just need to get the Internet connection working - many thanks for you help!!

Glad to hear you got it to work finally and that Vista has now installed.

Hopefully you will have no further issues and the rest of your setup goes without a hitch.

Best Regards
