I need an OS for my new build, so obviously I buy that product. However, my sister/mother would also like it, so I will go for the three pack. My problem is this: can my family UPGRADE from the same product that I will use to CLEAN INSTALL? Does that make any sense?

You can do either, although a clean install is the best. It also depends on which version of the OS be it x64 or x86, you cant mix them and upgrade.

I think you'll find a standard copy of Win7 will upgrade an installation of vista. (well the Betas and RC pre-release versions did anyway...)

ok cheers, while we are on the subject of w7 (in this w7 thread, in the w7 section...coincidence?) what is the difference between 32 and 64 bit. Is it just better performance, or is there a whole array of new and exciting features? Enlighten me

64bit version can map more than 4GB of RAM Memory
32bit can't

It's worth it. I have been running x64 OS' for about three years now. Not encountered any issues in the last couple years.
