Replaced a SATA HD and want to install win 7 32bit (retail version) Checked the BIOS for 1st boot device is DVD. Bios loading showed both DVD and HD recognised. Booted up, got the DVD tray opened and rebooted. Screen message is 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert media in selected boot device and press a key' did that and got 'windows is loading files' after which the 'starting windows' screen appears and then the base win7 background screen - that's it! No set up for new OS.
All I've done to the PC is replaced the HD - same slot, same cables.
Where do I look next, please.

Leave it ten minutes or so, it should pop up after a while.

Well that was something else my Mum didn't tell me!
Waiting - took about 5 minutes and then all started up, but I've never read anywhere about that; just expected it to run the set up straight away. In all the info I've read about installing this OS no-one's ever mentioned how it starts up. Tuts have always said 'boot from DVD and set up will start'. Learn something new every day.
All is now installed and running.
Many thanks for your rapid response, much appreciated.
