I have been trying for some time now to get this X10 netbook to connect to my home network.
It identifies all the available networks correctly (my neighbours have their own wi-fi networks) but it will not connect. I have even tried connecting whilst sat alongside the wireless router but still no joy. I have tried connecting to an unencrypted network, still no joy. I have tried without virus protection running etc. and still it cannot connect. However it will connect ok if I use a Virgin Mobile Broadband dongle and also if I plug in a usb Linksys network adaptor, but I would like it to work as it ought to.
Have I got a duff netbook or is there a problem with windows 7 starter edition?

Connecting to a local Wireless network is always a problem to set up, but once done, is usually a breeze.
It's identifying the networks, so it's working.
Bottom RH of the screen is an icon like a bar triangle. Right click on this. Select the option for connecting to a network.
A box will open listing the available networks. Choose yours and click on it. Anoter small box will open asking you for your wireless network's password.
I don't know the make of your wireless modem. If you can supply that it will make things a lot easier.
Also if there are any other computers using the wireless modem

Thank you for taking the time to respond Surfingus. Everything you say happens and I insert the connection password to be greeted by the response "cannot connect." My other computers connect without any problems whatsoever. I have set up the access list correctly on the wireless modem which is a Netgear WGT624v3 and am completely stumped now.

I had some trouble connecting my wireless router to the X10. Mine, like yours, isn't modern, (in computer terms).
I finally did a complete reset to restor the thing to factory setings.
On your router, this is how Netgear says it should be done:
To restore the factory default configuration settings without knowing the administration password
or IP address, you must use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router.
1. Press and hold the Default Reset button until the Test LED turns on (about 5 seconds).
2. Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.
Having done that, you will need to set it up again. This is the address of the manual for your modem:

I'm on cable broadband so I don't have to log in. Hopefully this is the case with you. If not, carefully go through the log in procedure, remembering that computer types like to make everything complicated to make up for the utter lack of a social life.
I suggest, for security, you select the minimum. Again Computer types, lacking friends, tend to see everyone as thei enemy. But the chances of you needing any advanced security are minimal.
But get connected first then try out security.
I have another suggestion I know will work but will post it on another post incase it upsets the administrators of this board.

I can only talk through my personal experiences. But for about the last 10 or so years, every problem I have ever had has been solved by these people.

They are a forum of really knowledgeable people. They do it for the pure pleasure. None have any axes to grind, except possibly me. Everything is cross checked by several competitive brains, so there is little chance of a mistake.
If they recommend some software, for example, then you can be pretty sure it is what it says.
They started off on MSN and moved to Proboards when MSN went all modern and whatever.

And I mean anything.

Perhaps there is an updated driver for the Wireless, they can solve these types of issues. I would check on the website for the manufacturer of the wireless card for the latest driver for your OS. I have cured many laptops this way.

Make sure you are putting the password in correctly. No caps etc etc.
