Hi, I have a new Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 AGP card, and while being the absolute dogs seems to be causing my PC to restart at will. Is there something I can do to fix this? Apologies in advance for knowing next to nothing about PCs!
Do you have the power plugged into the card?
What type of PSU do you have?

Everything's plugged in fine, my power supply is something like 750 Watt. It has blue lights and a fan control ****.
My bluescreen message is ATI2DVAG

Thankyou!!
Rats. No "CPU to AGP Controller" in my System Devices. I'll chase it up though.

Well, I bought a new dual core board, one with CPU to AGP Controller, applied the fix, and it's exactly the same. Keeps crashing on me.
Here are some other bluescreen messages, I'm afraid they mean nothing to me so I apologise if they aren't useful!

Looks like driver problems. Have you got the latest ?
Stop 0xC2 or BAD_POOL_CALLER
The Stop 0xC2 message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations in the following ways:
* By allocating a memory pool size of zero bytes.
* By allocating a memory pool that does not exist.
* By attempting to free a memory pool that is already free.
* By allocating or freeing a memory pool at an IRQL that was too high.
This Stop message is typically due to a faulty driver or software.
Possible Resolutions:
* A Stop 0xC2 messages might occur after installing a faulty device driver, system service, or firmware. If a Stop message lists a driver by name, disable, remove, or roll back the driver to correct the problem. If disabling or removing drivers resolves the issues, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.
* A Stop 0xC2 messages might also be due to failing or defective hardware. If a Stop message points to a category of devices (such as disk controllers, for example), try removing or replacing the hardware to determine if it is causing the problem.
* If you encounter a Stop 0xC2 message while upgrading to Windows XP, the problem might be due to an incompatible driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup. To avoid problems while upgrading, simplify your hardware configuration and remove all third-party device drivers and system services (including virus scanners) prior to running setup. After you have successfully installed Windows XP, contact the hardware manufacturer to obtain compatible updates.

I assume so, I bought the card in March and used the bundled disc. Sorry to noob, how can I find out a) what I'm running and b) where to upgrade, please?
Check the Drivers tab under Display Adapters in the Device Manager to see what version you are running.
Try HERE (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html) for the drivers.
Also try Driver Cleaner Pro (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745) before you install them. Make sure you read the instructions although it is quite straight forward.

Odd, my Properties say 8.291.0.0 but according to the link http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html version 7.5 was released after I bought the card.

I've fully installed the Catalyst and Hydravision drivers disc, or is that not what you mean?
There's a lot of net activity about this card giving similar problems. I'm now using an Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboard LGA775 VIA PT880 Quad/Core 2 Extreme / Core 2 Duo PCI-E ATX motherboard, which has both PCIE and AGP slots.
I notice Dabs are running the PCIE Sapphire x1950 Pro card for £100 all in, would adding a second matching graphics card sidestep the problem, perhaps?
Is there any real benefit to a 2nd graphics card aside from extra monitors? Sorry for getting noob froth everywhere.

Bump
Personally I don't see the point in 2 GFX cards.
The idea is that the extra GPU power will make your games run much better. But the next release of cards usually does this anyway.
I haven't had any experience with ATi cards as I've always used Nvidia so not really in a position to help with software issues. Try looking at Guru3d.com's forums. You will probably get some decent info there.

Thanks, kinda what I figured. I'm not lacking for gameplay I must admit (barring system crashes). Cheers for the info.

I have an Asrock 775Dual-VSTA motherboard which is the earlier version from yours. I also got a Powercolor x1950Pro PCI-Express. I have been getting the "ati2dvag cause infinite loop" bod errors.
After doing all the reinstalls with the latest drivers, bios settings and other fixes suggested from other forums, I still get the error. I can even reproduce it. If I copy a 4gb file from one hard drive to another, play a movie in media player and browse the Internet at the same time, I will get the ati2dvag error.
I think there is an incompatibility between ATI drivers and Via chipsets.

Out of curiousity, does anybody know if this problem affects Vista users?
There were new ATi Drivers released on Monday. (Catalyst 7.6) Maybe worth trying them.

Oh, for the record I bought the matching PCIE Sapphire X1950 and use that for gameplay. No problems since.
