I have called my pc's a variety of things over the years ... currently they are Up, Down, Server and Laptop ... because ... well ... thats what they are...
I used to call the pc's at work according to the user or the location ... so they are fatlad, corner, other corner, baldy, new server, old server, print server and bigtits ... there are more ... but I won't repeat them here...

Just looking through my company's network at the server names and it's clear that our IT guys are on something. Here's a selection:

But all these boxes run only Unix-like OS's and we don't use Windows networking at all any more, so the names are kinda irrelevant now. FWIW, our various routers assign consistent, reserved IP addresses via DHCP. Networking (both peer-to-peer & client-server) is done via sshfs to the various pre-defined IP addresses (together with root- and user-level shell commands via ssh).

So our days of calling boxes exotic names like Dr-Dream and Slartibartfast are a dim and distant memory I'm afraid. lol.
