I am Newbie to the site,I have some doubt regarding the,Is there any real advantage -- or disadvantage -- to installing SP2? I'm up to date on SP1 and for each subsequent update. I have not updated to Internet Explorer 8 (I generally use Firefox or Opera, and sometimes SeaMonkey instead of IE)Is SP2 entirely un-installable? I tried an early release on SP2 I downloaded from MSDN and my system was entirely screwed up for a few weeks. I am loath to chat SP2 and have the same thing happen again.

Welcome to the forum :)
Installing the most up to date version of anything you are using is always a good idea. It could only contain small fixes, but may also contain fixes to serious security problems..
Any browser that you use you should also make sure is up to date, as they often have flaws which can be exploited...
Installing a service pack shouldn't do anything bad to your computer, like slowing it down or messing it up. I'm guessing you're talking about Vista in which case i have SP2 and its just fine! :)
If you're talking about XP then install SP2 and 3 immediately ;)
If something were to go wrong i think you can uninstall a SP, and its always a good idea to back up important files before installing :)
And i would love to be your valentine :ghey:

Hello and welcome. It depends on which OS you are running. With Xp for example, huge security flaws were patched, with Vista, they were not there to begin with. If you have Vista sp1 there is not a huge advantage to sp2 as you will have already got all the security fixes. All this did was add some further background fixes (things you would only normally get by contacting MS with a specific issue) and rewrite the bluetooth stack. This was a disadvange to me as I lost the use of my Bluetooth dongle.
Besides, get Windows 7! It so much nicer!
