I have recently bought a Sapphire X1650 PRO graphics card. I installed it and it worked fine, for three days.
I was playing ROME. I turned up the video resolution to maximum and played on for about three hours.
Then the screen went blank, except for a message that said:
ATTENTION OUT OF RANGE
H:134 9khz V:257 2hz
I tried restarting. I tried restarting in safe mode. I tried restarting in safe mode and doing a System Restore to two days previously. Nothing worked.
Finally, I removed the new graphics card and put back my old one. The computer now works OK.
Is my new graphics card buggered, or am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like you turned up the resolution too high for the monitor. Try by starting Windows in VGA mode and reinstall your GFX drivers.

Thank you.
I am computer-illiterate. How do I start in VGA mode? Are the GFX drivers the ones on the disc that came with the graphics card?

start the computer in safe mode, remove the gfx card drivers then restart the computer

VGA mode should be in the list on the same screen as Safe mode. This gives you all your PC functionality less the Graphics drivers.
