Hi all..
Would it be possible to update the basket system to store the data in the database rather than the session / cookies, as per most e-commerce sites these days?
I often access the site from various boxes and for example, I priced up some bits for a purchase at work the other day, but when I login from home, the basket is empty. Would be useful to login and find the basket as it was to continue.

Ian

Agreed there. A "Save basket" option would be very helpful.

Actually, a 'save basket' option would be even more flexible than it being mandatory, for those who are happy wiht it as it is, and for those who would prefer to access the contents from multiple boxes :)

to be fair, amazon have a very good site, hence it being the biggest online store in the world.

+1 for save basket.
I wonder if there is a way to parse it out as a PDF file...
why a PDF?
why not just do it so it adds a cookie which deletes after 7 days instead of logging off.
saves space on the server and is simple to add in.

Well yeah, cookie adjustment wouldn't be hard.
PDF would be nice to export as through the site, but not a requirement.
Being able to save a basket to your account would be very nice though.

I get the feeling if we could save it to pdf,
there will be a lot of people speccing perfect builds,
saving them to their desktop,
and looking occasionally whilst thinking "*sigh* i need more money" lol

Cookies are per machine/browser/user. They are no good for the OP's situation.
I haven't a clue why a PDF but a (database stored) save list/wish list does sound like a good idea to me.
I'm not sure I'd personally be using one here but I do use one at Screwfix for the household bits and pieces/projects. eg. I might put a shelf up and notice we are running out of rawlplugs. I'm not going to order just those but the saved list ensures I don't to forget to include them in a larger order, maybe in a month's time.
