Hi,

I have a AMD Sempron Processor 3000+ (1.8GHz) and i want to upgrade it to dual core.

Im thinking about getting a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual-Core

I have a 939 socket.

My mortherboard spec is here and it says that it can support the dual core.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... 474&dlc=en (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00378480&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1839474&dlc=en)

What i want to know, is wether i can just swap the processors over and not reinstall XP. This was a package PC so it came with no OS CD.

Many thanks,
Mike

Hi,

You should be able to swap it without too many drama's.

Make sure your current BIOS supports it or check for updates.
When you replace it reset the CMOS. This is shown in your link.

When you boot the machine install the Dual core drivers

From this page at AMD.com (http://www.amd.com/gb-uk/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html)

You will need:

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16
&
AMD Dual-Core Optimizer.

Good Luck :)

turn the computer off, disconnect from wall, then take the motherboard battery out. and switch the cmos jumper on the motherboard
