I am thinking of purchasing the following to develop multiprocessing applications (programming):
Novatech Barebone Bundle - Intel Core i7 860 - 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz - Intel P55 Motherboard - ATX Black Gaming Tower Case & Corsair 750w PSU
£595.73 £595.73
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
£76.59 £76.59
Western Digital Caviar Green Power 1TB 32MB Cache Hard Disk Drive SATAII 300MB/s <8.9ms 7200rpm - OEM
£62.65 £187.95 (Two, raid 1)
Optiarc AD-7241S Lightscribe 24X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer DVD-RAM SATA Black - OEM
£17.86 £17.86
Kingston SSDNow V Series 64GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive Kit
£98.71 £98.71
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit DVD - OEM
£95.32 £95.32
Novatech 28" Widescreen Full HD LCD Monitor - Black
£244.25 £244.25
Novatech ATI Radeon 5750 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Graphics Card - Retail
£94.46 £94.46
It is the wish list version, and I might have to try and configure something for under £1500 inc VAT (The above is 1675).
Questions:
Is it well rounded?
Will it all work together?
What tools are recommended for assembly (and do you have them)?
How can i reduce the noise of the system further? (can i fit extra/alternative fans? Different CPU cooler?, ...)
If I had to trim the price, ...
Thanks, Paddy.

Looks good. I would be inclined to lean towards an Intel SSD though. The 80GB one is a bit more, but the chips are on a smaller process than the Kingstons (which are intel based). Less heat, higher efficiency, and also works with Intel's monitoring tools which give a great representation of how much wear there is on the drive.
Everything else looks good though.

also if you want to be more on target for the budget i'd build the barebones myself, saves a bit of money. Also a 750W PSU is a bit overkill and you could get away with a lesser motherboard if you're not overclocking or running dual cards

In that respect, a suitable addition to your system might be found here - http://www.johnlewis.com/Women/Handbags/Handbags/Handbags/4775/ProductCategory.aspx

Thanks Doug!
That gives me a cheaper option to fall back on, and I noticed the CPU cooler which I presume means slower and quieter fans.

Yes. the fans in the antec 300 and manully speed ajustable through a little switch and the cpu cooler is very quite (ive got one) and as its PWM it alters the its speed with the tempreture of the cpu. Also on your setup the barebones will come with ram so you wont need the G.Skill stuff.

Comes to just under £1500 inc VAT. IMO that is a very good machine for whatever you are running. Its also future proof. If you want to save some cash the 24" novatech monitor is ~£120 cheaper and the only difference is the screen size and slightly lower res.

Would have gone with a Thermalright Ultra Extreme but Nova doesnt seem to stock them anymore:confused: With those it comes to ~£1450 inc. VAT. That would leave some change for a couple more fans, maybe some Artic Silver 5.
All that would be needed for assembly is a Phillips head screwdriver and any cables would come packaged.
Hope I helped :D

i disagree. no need for a 5770 or a 700w psu or an i7 920, a 860 would be better for his needs. also he suggested a pretty pants ssd. would post a build but im too tired and ive got school tomarrow, so il post suggestions tomarrow.

I went for the 5770 because for an extra ~£30 you get a lot more performance, especially at full 1080p. The i7 920 was the same price as the 860, is more future-proof (socket 1366) and offers slightly higher performance. It also has triple-channel memory.
I went for a 700w PSU so that he probably wont need to upgrade if he wants to say put another 5770 in there or upgrade to i9 (presuming intel dont release another new socket type).
To be honest, im really not that up to date with SSDs and which brand is best and so on, so I just posted the same one as the OP.

i would stongly agrue against the 920 being more future proof as the only new cpu's that are going to be brought out for it are 1s which are goin to being costing large sums of money 500 upwards. also triple channel memory has next to no benefit. whilst socket 1156 is intels new mainstream socket and will be keep alive for about another 5 yrs at my guess and will have more cpus released for it which will be affordable. also their is no such thing as i9. its a phrase i have used myself but ive been corrected and told it is just i7 980 if i remember correctly. fair enough about the psu as well but its more than he'll ever need i suspect though.
edit: heres my recommendation for a very quick machine that will be quiet.
