I was going to post this to Networking, and while the specifics are to do with networking, for me it's a general Vista question.

With my other machine running under Win XP, setting up a Share is easy, a few mouse clicks and its done, and the shared can be accessed anywhere on the LAN.

With Vista it becomes a whole new, drawn out battle between me and the poxy OS. It is driving me off my head...

Sometimes a Share will work straight away, other times it requires a deal of fiddling with the Property tabs of, Security, Permissions, Owner, or Effective Permissions.

I want to do away with all this excrement, I want to set up a Share and have it working straight away, without any hassle.

Can it be done without dumping this HOS called Vista and installing XP instead?

Some useful input would be appreciated to save my sanity, or soon it'll be Loony bin here I come. (St Anne's in my case over here).
Cheers

Just guessing. But you could try adding \\XPmachinename\Username to the Administrators group on your Vista machine. May or may not work. :?

Does this make any sense?

File and Print Sharing in Windows Vista (http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/File-Print-Sharing-Windows-Vista.html)

Looks like you have to dump files you want to share into a certain folder. Seems a bit silly really.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I have no idea what you mean by \\XPMachinename\username etc.

On the Vista machine the Shares are in Public anyway.

An XP machine is not particularly involved with the process... I do have other machines, I just want some way of getting rid of all the security hassle.

[Edit] I don't think this will work. :(
