I have a Novatech 8599 Laptop and just recently it has started randomly shutting down
There is no real pattern to the shutdowns I might be on it for 20 mins or over 1 hr and all of a sudden the screen goes Black and the fans stop turning and the system has shut down
Any idea what may be causing this problem?
When I feel the bottom of the laptop it is warm I would not say it is excessively hot
I have noticed also that I can no longer run the laptop from the battery the mains power cable needs to be connected for the laptop to work
I do not want to spend money on a new battery if the fault is something more serious
I would be greatfull for any help on this matter
Regards

If you are competant, remove the cooling fan/s and clean the heatsinks. These get a build-up of fluff/dust and will cause overheating and shut-down problems.
I don't know if you are aware, but you should only use the mains cable with the battery installed while it is charging, as soon as the battery is 100% you should either disconnect the mains or battery.

problem is with this unit the battery is designed to not be removed. this unit is a desktop replacement model.
best bet is to do a soptom says and try cleaning the fans. also check that they are actually still spinning.
simple enough job remove the 4 screws on the removable panel on the bottom of the notebook and slide it off. There you should clearly see the fan area. you could always replace the thermal contact if you have a tube of thermal compound to hand. 5 screws on heatsink. 4 around the cpu and one on the rhs of the fan.
chances are the battery is dead. but it shouldnt effect the operation of the notebook whilst its on mains. you could remove it (same panel as i said to remove earlier).
let me know how this goes and if it doesnt help i'll try to suggest something else.
Thanks

Well thank you all for your help
The cleaning of the fans seems to have done the trick
I went to Maplins and got a can of compressed air and the amount of Dust that came out of the fans was amazing and since blowing out the fans it seems to be fine
The battery on the laptop is dead but for now I will leave it as it is not sure if It is worth the expence of a new battery ....anyone know of any cheep batter stockists
Regards and thank you again for your advice
