I think I paid £69 for the retail Home Premium edition from Nova a few months back. Which was a good deal, given it lets me change motherboard down the road.
But it has been creeping up ever since. This is obviously a conscious decision by Microsoft.

Alas, it will drive folks to £80 OEM versions and all those activation issues when changing hardware. Probably piracy or Ubuntu otherwise. This is not good. I kinda hoped Microsoft were going to be more realistic about pricing. :(

Hmm, indeed. I too was hoping for a more realistic price. Shows what a bargin it was at launch. I am glad I got my copy of Ultimate free.

It's bad news for hardware upgrades too.
Not only are we forummers going to waste a lot of time explaining the ins and outs of activation, but firms like Nova will have to pay far more attention to fitting motherboards with a solid upgrade path that can still use the same license. :td:
Bit peeved about this altogether, tbh.

Well, hopefully I should be ordering 10 copies of pro and a new desktop today. At least pro has not changed. This I was worried about.

for now you can still get it at other stores for £90 first 3 i looked at are all under £100
I have noticed nova are very rarely the cheapest most likely as they don't seem to buy huge amounts of stock

http://www.physforum.com/index.php?showtopic=4783 Lol.Say's it all.We keep our's going through hard work and gritted teeth.A post 3rd one down.
I used to repair computers. I went to house after house with windows software problems. I would fix the stupid problems and hand them a bill that should have gone to Microsoft. He has stolen every penny from people that paid 10 times for repair of software that should have worked right before it was released. We were essentially working for gates without getting a paycheck! He is a monster power grabber. He was ahead of the US government and public in understanding software and used every dirty trick to dominate the software industry. If you will be honest about what you accomplish with you computer it will be little more than web surfing. That is because Bill Gates keeps changing the operating system. If you understand software you will realize his constant changing of the operating system is just to make more money and the result is programs that you have no longer work. Programmers all work to upgrade and adapt their software. That is why the promise of actually accomplishing anything with a personal computer is dead. Bill Gates is the biggest thief in world history! Bill Gates destroyed the Personal Computer!:D

Sadly all this is old news, microsoft always said from the start in the new year the price would rise. Im actually surprised that its taken this long for the price to rise. Thankfully ive got enough copies of windows both legit and no so to keep me going until they next release one.

Yeah, I am greedy lol. It's part of my plan to take over the world. No they are for the workstations at work. I do the IT melarky there and fix etc the PCs.

So true. I paid £40 on release for my gf and technet sorts my systems.
Glad I got mine on the pre-order deal too, like others I'm saddened to see MS not be a little more realistic, kind of hope that they see a massive drop in sales and maybe re-assess the situation.

I agree with you system7, I have also noticed that the retail version sold by Novatech has gone from £91 a few weeks ago to £120. I didn't realise that it was simply Micro$oft marketing policy. I will not be upgrading to Windows7 any time soon at these prices. I'm already running Ubuntu on a couple of servers and XP on my other PCs.
As soon as I can move completely away from Micro$oft to Unix, I will do so.

Scan.co.uk knocking Home Premium Retail out at £67.07p today.
Not sure if this is a general price drop or just a Scan thing.
Oscar99

that's not strictly correct,
Scan are selling the upgrade for £67.07 .
The actual retail windows 7 is being sold for £91.73

That is the retail upgrade package, the retail full package is listed as £91.73
edit - beaten by above, what you get for opening so many tabs, however both are retail packages, just one is full and the other is upgrade, which means both fully allow licence transference to another PC

Quite right, my mistake, was looking for some clients earlier.
It is indeed an upgrade.
Shame the family pack has gone, that was a tidy option at the time for those of us with desktop plus laptops in the house.
The Family Pack is still available. I was looking into it earlier this week,as I still have 2 machines running on Beta.
Be careful though, the Family pack are only upgrade licences.

Is it? I read a microsoft quote that indicated it was limited time only?
Struggling to find it anywhere at mo.

you can still use upgrade disks to put the OS onto a blank HDD, me and IainK have both done this, by making it boot from the disk
I've probably asked this before....whats the best option for me to upgrade my daughter lappy from Vista to W7?
May want to reinstall in maybe a year or two on a new lappy, but thats not definite.

I bought this for £44 from Tesco last year for my parents Desktop system I wish I bought more.
If a triple retail non-upgrade home premium family pack reappears at £120ish I might get it otherwise in a time of global recession, MS seem quite intent on milking everyone, knowing full well how successful their "teaser" beta/rc testing programme of 2008/9 went.

HeHe, big price drop to £94.99 for Retail Windows 7.

Gotta be the OS of choice for people who swap motherboards a lot, for whom Windows 7 OEM is therefore a bad option. :xgrin:

Hi,
If any of you are in education with a *.ac.uk email address you can get Windows 7 pro for £70 quid, Ultimate office for £40. Microsoft have been running the ultimate steal for a good few years now. I picked up office 2007 when it came out whilst doing a part time course. they now offer visio as well.
