Sounds like you have a colour casting problem. Will need to go back somewhere for repair. If you cant find out where you got it from, to check for warranty info, you could always call the ATEC service providers listed on here, to see if they will help you and how much they will charge.

Have you tried anything thru' the DVI (or HDMI if present) and PC inputs?

I purchased one of these panels in March 2006 (from Novatech) and had a red colour casting fault plus DVI issues). As it is a fault with the TV, maybe ATEC will fix it for nothing.

If you dont get any luck with the service company, try contacting Atec

EDIT:

I just noticed on the atec europe site, under Customer Service and Warranty tabs, it states that if proof of purchase isn't available for the Atec 2 yr warranty, then it is based on date of Manufacture. Lets hope that your tv is within that timeframe.

That was a well known issue with that model.

ATEC should fix it, but you might have to stamp your feet a bit if you cannot prove when it was purchased.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem with my Atec AV320W.. however the tv is now out of warranty.. is there a possibility I could get this fixed, especially as it would seem the fault has been there since day one...

Thanks

I have recently encountered exactly the same problem. In addition the DVI will not work at all. I have only just got the HD gear to use on the TV.
I have contacted ekey and the only help they have offered is to give me the numbers of local service engineers that will repair the TV (and charge).
I will now read the sale of goods act (as amended) very carefully and act accordingly.

Up till now I have found Novatech to be a good supplier and have recommended them both personally and professionally. For anyone who is interested here is a link to a brief summary of the sale of goods act. These are statutory rights.

Hi again..

Right, I spoke to Key ref my TV... I asked them if they would repair my TV.. they said they would.. for a wishy washy 60quid.. plus labour... plus parts... plus vat.. great eh! I pointed out that fact that this is a known fault with this tv and that the tv more that likely had the fault from new. No dice. I then asked if I could upgrade to the extra 2 years warranty.. they said you can only do that in the first 30days of owning the TV.. first I heard of that, although there was probably some small piece of paper in the box that went straight in the bin.. (seriously, who takes out extended warranty?).. no dice again. Now, heres a quote from jrhayes' link that I think fits with our nice out of warranty problem..

"If goods which are expected to last six months don't, it'll be presumed that the goods didn't conform to the contract at the time they were bought, unless the seller can prove to the contrary.

In all other situations, it's for the consumer to prove their own case (that is, that the problem existed at the time of the contract). This will prove more difficult the longer you've had the goods. Subject to this, a consumer has six years from the time they buy something in which to make a claim."

Now the part I'm conserned with is the second paragraph. The way I read it, it basically says that if it was proved that the goods were faulty within the contract (ie warranty/expected life of product) then the seller has to repair/replace the goods. Now we all know this is a known faulty, and that the TVs left the factory with this fault, so it is my opinion that the TVs are not as described, of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose... to further quote "The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended)".

Now I know this sounds balshy but I think people will agree this sounds fair..

definatly does, i always take out extended warrenty if i know it will go between that time

IE ipods £39.99ish for 3years extended. marvelous from argos just needed to pay that little extra and i got free ipod speakers too. i only try and take out extended warrenty on £130+ with 1years.

"definatly does, i always take out extended warrenty if i know it will go between that time"

Wow, I wish I'd had you're clairevoyance when I thought about buying this TV.. coz I just wouldn't have bothered :D

Anyway, all the stuff about extended warranty is besides the point because the TV was faulty when it was manufactured and that is the issue...

So, nobodys got anything to say about this?..... I've done some more searching and found this on the forum

http://forum.novatech.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=761&p=5248&hilit=atec+FIRMWARE#p5248

It would seem there is a firmware update to correct this... is this something we can do ourselves or do we need to send this back still?

The warranty is not a factor in this case. The sale of goods act applies. Warranty only applies if the unit/s were working and then fails, if they do not work on first try then Sale of Goods Act kicks in! now usually, if an LCD is good for 50,000 hrs use and is specified as such but fails after say 10,000hrs and out of warranty, it can be classed as of unmerchantable quality as the manufacturer or reseller may be making unsubstantiated claims (because the manufacturer unbeknownst to the reseller may have picked up a load of dodgey screens cheap) and trading standards may be happy to step in and help if this is the case.

The forums prove that there was a problem with these sets by the amount of customers that have experienced this casting as soon as they try to hook up units to the DVI, Component, or RGB connections for the first time. if your set is out of warranty go down the road of Sale of Goods act. Novatech should under the circumstances sort something out with their repair partners for people who are experiencing this problem and offer a free fix.

Samsung for example, offered an extended 3 yrs warranty on one of their side by side fridge freezers as some models were fitted with a faulty water dispenser component which failed within 3 years although the warranty was only 2 yrs. Their take on the matter was that it shouldn't fail within that time when they expect the rest of the fridge freezer to last a minimum of 5 years under normal use - fair play Samsung! I am sure Novatech would like to be as fair as the big boys.

Wow, nice shiney new forum and this thread is still here, I would have thought that Novatech would have taken the opportunity to sweep this under the carpet with the roll out. I suppose that is one good thing. However, there is still a ghostly silence from Novatech with regards to these substandard tvs. I'm not surprised we haven't heard anything from them Dennis, as Novatech has now become such a big company it has lost all sense of humanity, and the spectre of a faceless entity has now grown over what once was. You will now find that Novatech is now a collection of tiny cogs in a huge wheel where any one cog can not effect the direction of said wheel.

So there you have it, I could go and take this down the Sales of Goods Act route, but it would probably be a lengthy and tortuous affair with nothing gained at the end. All I can say is this. Next time I come to spend nearly £800 on a brand new TV, when this one finally becomes bored with teetering on the brink of destruction, I will not be heading to Novatech with my hard earned cash. No-no! That would be foolhardy. I'll head somewhere they would give you at least a minimal response after nearly 2 years of complaint by purchasers of a defective product..... rather than silence...

Oh look, a tumble weed...........

Thanks
