really cannot see this happening tbh, why would they cut short a profitable product so early? it really does not make any business sense and imo it wont happen.
In the Grand scheme of things, it's about on par with what they have done previously.

im not doubting that they are working on w8 in fact its almost certain they are but it doesent make business sense to launch it so early.
i am liking win7, i liked win xp too but could see a few flaws in it.
not really found anything wrong with win7 yet... doubt i'll upgrade

Seems MS has to appeal all those folks in industry who effectively "rent" their licenses on the basis that they get regular upgrades. Apparently, the long wait for Vista and the subsequent debacle has not pleased corporate buyers - who are slowly-but-surely starting to twig that they are being ripped-off. So now MS has to try to knock out something every couple of years to make the corporate punters think they are actually getting something in return for their massive "Microsoft Software Assurance" annuity-based licensing fees. More info for anyone interested:-

They are bound to keep developing so i can definitely see a new OS withing a year or 2. Apple looks awesome so i guess they have to try to better it, if possible?

MS normally roll a new OS out every three years... The XP to Vista wait was unusual, and only happened because after several ears development they scrapped the code :rolleye:
I'm loving 7 over Vista though, none of that annoying constant changing of theme when you launch games :)

Indeed. Plus the growing popularity of the free 'nixes c/w the fact the the most popular one has a regular, six-monthly release cycle, no doubt concentrated the great minds @ Redmond even more. :D Not to mention cheeky young whippersnappers such as Android & Chrome OS of course. :D Best wishes, G.

Why doesn't it make business sense, if it's ready then they should release it.
If it's ready and they don't release it, then they are wasting money since any extra money they spend adding new feature won't increase the profitibility really, and if they start on windows 9, they will just have an even bigger overlap!

Well, they want to milk Windows 7 for as much money as possible first... people will still be upgrading from XP for the next few years

And the paranoid, tight-fisted, grumpy geezers such as yours truly, with no sense of brand-loyalty whatsoever, who say, "Screw that for a game of tin soldiers (http://www.garfnet.org.uk/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=66&Itemid=58)" and promptly defect to the Penguinistas instead, for free! lol G. :D

lemme see, 95, 98 and millenium all basically the same but patched.
w2k and then XP so...
7 is just the patch for vista
8 will be the new one, possibly.
my take.

What a stout and stalwart fellow! Sadly, I never stumbled across his forum. But perhaps you would be kind enough to convey my best wishes to him please. :)
That said, I felt it was better for my karma not to hate Vista. Better to dump it instead - along with most of MS's other products. Simples! :D Best wishes, G.

Windows 7 does everything that VIsta couldn't. IMO vista was completly pointless - no gain over Xp whatso ever. I reckon windows 8 will be completly redesigned. New interface etc.
Howver these days i'm drawn to the free open source OS's such as Ubuntu. No matter how good windows gets I think I'll stay with free os's.

7 is essentially Vista... the changes are negligible.

exactly. maybe you dont know this but companies keep a product in cirruclation for as long as it takes for the product to mature as the more it sells then the more money they will make from w7. thats how all businesses work, they try to maximise the profits out of each product they make.

Seems there may be at least a smattering of truth in the rumour. It's party due increased competition according to The Register:-
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/01/28/windows_8_roadmap_maybe/
Interestingly, the chart featured in The Register article was subsequently removed by a moderator on the Microsoft MSDN blog:-
http://blogs.msdn.com/chris.green/archive/2009/12/02/updated-product-lifecycle-gannt-chart.aspx
...and Chris Green, the MS Employee mentioned in The Register article, is now an ex-employee. So make of that what you will. Best wishes, G.
