Hey, i purchased a Sapphire X1950 512mb AGP gfx card not to long ago. It runs fine but have major problems with Battlfefield 2. I used to have a Sapphire 9500 256mb card and that ran BF2 fine when the gfx in game was around low-med. But with the new gfx it doesnt run the game properly even on the lowest settings. It just jumps and lags. I thought it first was a network problem as i've recently changed providers to a better one so i tried the game on single player. Still the same problem.
I've also reinstalled windows and reformatted my hard drive.

It's not the best PC in the world. Intel pent 4 3.4GB, 560watt PSU (forgotten make), 1.25GB Ram and the new sapphire x1950.

You guys got any ideas cos i have no idea what the problem is.

Thanks alot.

Is the power supply a brand name or a generic one??
Have you made any changes in the BIOS to the AGP section??

The PSU is a branded one. I upgraded it so it would run the gfx card. I havn't changed any of the BIOS or AGP.
Thanks.

the radeon X1950 should far surpass your 9500, although the 9500 was a quality card.

i gather you have tried the simple things like installing all the latest drivers for your mainboard and gfx card.

also updates for the game and windows updates.

i would try an updated bios. there maybe a compatability issue between your card and mainboard.

failing that im gonna suggest a clean install... see how that goes.

Hi,

You say you re-installed xp, was bf2 re-installed?
If not have you tried deleting the profiles? Also there's a nice program called battlefield cleaner (google it).
I would also check your sound settings are correct (hardware/software?), turn off voip etc, English vo only.
Personally altho it should be better than the old card, sounds of classic case of the card is struggling (doubt it's paging as you have just the right amount of ram for bf2 - 1.25mb). I would start from 800x600 lowest settings check if that's smooth, if so work up until you find performance/graphics tradeof sweet spot (shadows are a 'no no' I expect for your card).
Also ensure AntiAliasing is off, you may have it forced on in the driver which would override the bf2 setting of off.

This may be of some help also (optimisation guide):
