I am looking to buy a full new system, but i am torn between the E4300 and the E6600 (possible the E6850).
The reason for the choice of the E4300 is its cheap, and i have been told by friends that its great for overclocking. A Friend of mine has managed to overclock his to 3.4Ghz. Now would the E4300 last a time or not. This brings me to either the E6600 and the E6850? would these be more "future proof" or not. From what i have seen the E6600 overclocks to 3.4 ish. I am not sure about the E6850. I will be hanging out for the proposed 22 july price drop. That is all i can think of at the moment, thank you for you guidance in advance.

the E6850 is obviousl the better choice for futureproofing, just be sure that your mainboard supports 1333MHz FSB. otherwise go for the E6600 or E6800.

also take note that your own overclocking experiences may vary and sometimes the mainboard can be a big factor in this. But be more than sure of what your doing as overclocking can VIOD the warranty on your parts.

I would go for the faster part off the bat, because as said above, overclocking voids almost every warranty.
So get the better part, it should be more than enough for any game out at the moment.
Then next year when it feels slower, overclock it then

E6600 is rock solid. Get a G0 stepping and you'll hit 3.5 on air with ease.

For those interested in the effects of oc: http://www.xcpus.com/forums/overclockin ... metal.html (http://www.xcpus.com/forums/overclocking/78-current-density-cpus-physical-effects-electrons-metal.html)

I agree my e6600 runs 24/7 at 3.2 at temps less than 50c fully loaded had it up 2 3.5 no probs on a striker board and it loved it, I think its probably still the best choice of cpu for the money even more so if it also goes down on 22nd!!

go e6600, rock solid, or for the price of the e6850 get the q6600 :)
