Have an old and tired Toshiba Celeron 400 laptop with just ONE port, and still often think some of todays PCs still dont quite have enough USB ports, thank goodness hubs are cheap and easy to chain plenty of items :)

IMHO USB is one of the best advancements in PC technology in last 10 years, ok Win 95 was useless and Win 98 wasnt much better, but being to use gazillion different very cheap devices and hotswap and add them whenever you want on a Win 2000 or XP set up is a breeze.

How many devices have you got on your system?

I have:-
- camera (rubbish Samsung 1.3Mp unit)
- 128Mb memory stick
- mobile (Moto V3)
- phone for use with Skype
- Logitech cordless mouse
- Microsoft Digital media keyboard
- printer (HP deskjet 845)

pretty minimal on devices.... 4 = printer / Keyboard / Mouse / USB TV

Upto 12 off the motherboard 4 off the monitors hub so potentially 15 I could have.

I must agree with you, in my opinion there aren't enough USB ports on a standard computer. I have the following:

Wireless mouse receiver
Keyboard
2 USB memory sticks (2GB & 256MB)
Wireless modem
Wired modem (for setting up game servers)
Palm cradle
Backup hard drive
Microsoft webcam
Dell printer
Various wires for accessories (phone, MP3 player, two cameras)
Oh, and two Logitech gamepads.

Phew!

i have total of 18 USB ports on my setup (including the 2 hubs on my 2 monitor and another hub), but i've only used a few of them.
-G5 mouse
-Apple iPhone
-xbox360 controller
-Webcam
-a wireless Wifi in case my internet goes down
-2 for my portable HDD
-a USB memory stick

8 out of 18 used..... only 4 is plugged in all the time. and iPhone usually uses the Apple power adaptor instead of from the computer.

USB is the greatest invention, it's superb. very easy to use and very easy to programme.

More than I can recall. Mouse/keyboard, hd, indoor temp thing, I do have a couple of USB DTV dongles not being used, a few bluetooth dongles, mobile phone, webcam, old digi camera, USB ethernet dongle *2, Xbox 360 controller, homemade IDE controller and several pen drives.

Plugged in at the moment:
Edirol UM2 MIDI interface
Belkin USB hub on my desk which currently has a Trust Card Reader plugged in.

I'd guess there are another 10 devices I might sometimes plug in on this PC but I'd never want them all at once.

I don't use a USB keyboard and mouse in this room. I've got a 4 port KVM switch under the desk and rely on PS/2 connectors.

I've just remembered that I have one more "permanent" connection. This goes to some sort of USB sharing switch.

The PC side of this also is connected to a Belkin wireless print server. The device side connects to an Epson R220 printer. It's a messy setup but I can not check ink levels, etc. on the printer through the print server. This way, I can press a button to either have the printer working (as it usually is) as part of the network or to have it working as a local usb printer.

to all those with USB keyboard, have you ever had problems when your keypresses isn't recognised in BIOS?

especially those with exotic keyboard such as G15.
