Hi,

Yet again another discussion down the pub has lead to ye another thread for clarification by you gurus..

Right,here go's.

If I have a licence key for a retail version of XP Home SP2,can I use this disc to install XP but use a key for XP Home SP3

Like wise,if I have a retail version of XP Home SP3,can I use the disc to install XP Home SP2 key

I have an old copy of XP home pre service packs, can I use this with keys from XP SP2 and XP SP3

Last question, will a key for XP SP2 or SP3 work with a copy of XP that has been slip streamed with a SP.

Cheers

Hmm, XP licenses have always been fairly akward. You need the correct media for the License. Unlike Vista, which has all versions on disk, it's chosen by the code you enter.

You may have problems installing with the wrong media for the License. I could not use my XP Home vanilla code with a latter version of the media (added service packs) and had to install from the original cd and spend hours updating it.

thanks for the help snakedoc.
My opinion was similar to yours, from my own previous experience. But this lead to a few hours,in between snooker frames discussing who was right etc etc
The only good thing about Vista is the ability to install any version...
Many thanks
