I have recently bought a new PSU and what I ordered was this: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... nov-psu550 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?nov-psu550)
Strange thing is what I got in my box was actually a 650W silver PSU with one 12CM fan. Now I read the reviews for this and people actually say it is gold and it has two fans as the picture shows. I even took back into Novatech and they didn't seem to have a problem with it...

So whats the problem then, who got more than what you paid for.
well seeing that you paid £20 for it, hopefully your not going to be hooking it up to an immense gaming rig.
That psu may say 650W or what ever but it probs only gives out about 300W

I was just wondering why Novatech staff wouldn't say anything about it being the wrong product when I took it back

it is because you are special

if not

I suspect cheap power supplies such as the one you bought are "Flavour of the month" type products. You get whichever one is currently stacked to the roof.

This is the most likely. Generic products depend on what we have in stock at the time.

for the same price the 350 watt hiper would have been a better pick :p

Heheh
avoid anything that is Gold and below £30 for more than 400w
It either wont give the power you require despite the claim, or will go spectacularly taking half if not all your main components with it.
This was a big point over on the MSI user forum over the years, people having coughQ-TECcough units go pop and kill their rigs 8)
Now they have a sticky on psu pointers for new to build folks.
It may not have the prestige of the bigger names novatech can supply (T/take, Enermax, OCZ, though tOCZ are quite new to the PSU world in the uk in the last yr or so, mainly a RAM maker) but the X-pro range are good value for money alongside the likes of Hiper and Nexus.
But yea, anything that is above 400w and gold with 2 ore more 80mm fans, avoid like the plague
A PC is nothing without a good PSU.
