im building a quad core system that is set to last for 3 yeas, with a bit of overclocking.
-Q6600 hope to overclock to 3Ghz
-2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
-new Intel X38 chipset when they are out
-8800GTS for now, top 9x00 series when they come out
-2x HDD + 1 DVD RW
so what is the minimum wattage i should aim for and which power supply would you recommend?
Was going to post a link, but FF crashed on me.
If you Google "PSU calculator", there is one that comes up quite frequently. It appears you have to pay to access it now, but it used to be pretty good.
But I would think 700W would be more than enough.

Wow tiger a 550 watt will be ample for that system, in fact my sons runs on a 500w fine so dont go over doing it on the psu when it not needed

so 600 is a reasonable number?

wow, Tt Toughpower 700w (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?TT-W0106) looks even better value for money....... reviews are also good, what do you guys think?
if that's out of stock, i'll order the Hiper M580w. reason is that not much reviews write about the TypeM.
Novatech techs: any word on when will the Tt Toughpower 700w (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?TT-W0106) be back in stock?

the toughpower range is incredibly good, myself im looking at the 1200w for a quad and sli maybe, depending on 9800gtx pricing etc.
i would get one if you can, many have been satisfied with them.

tekno that is way too much power, that would be enough for 2x systems you just spec'd out for yourself
teknokid
26-07-2007, 12:11 PM
well maybe the 1kw version then, but ive seen 700w bein pulled from an OC quad and gtx's in sli, i want sli 9800gtx!

someone's rich........
700w..... hum ........ so 600 will be enough for an OCed quad + 9800gtx (SLi is too expensive for me)

a branded 700 and it should be no problem.

because i need around 800w, and between 800w-1200w is about £40, and the Tt has 8pin pci-e :)

Same here, and also, my room could only support a small sized monitor ,so i modded (lol) my room and built my own desk, custom ftw, and now i can fit a 32 " there, if i wanted.
With the money your gonna spend on a psu, i could tax my car for a whole year, and buy some petrol

sorry i didn't stick to your recommendations. i've bought a Corsair Hx620w.
the 620w has been tested to be able to run 8800GTX in SLi PLUS overclocked qx6700 (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/462/1/)
so i thought the 620w will be enough. though it's more expensive than the Toughpower 700w, the labelled 620w is its constant highest output, not like other companies, advertise their temperory maximum.
teknokid
16-08-2007, 02:58 PM
the toughpower is constant 700w, just the corsair is actually capable of constant 800w!
wuyanxu
17-08-2007, 08:42 AM
why is it labelled as 620w then?
teknokid
17-08-2007, 09:43 AM
no idea, corsair obviously didnt realise its capabilities.
