My brother has this motherboard, it is a fair few years old and he wants to upgrade it for moderate game usage, just css.
He manily uses the system for music and internet, so nothing overboard .
He only has a AGP X4 slot, and i was wondering what would be best suited for his needs.
I was thinking a 7600gs, plus what power supply, his is only 250W, which wont cut it tbh.
And 2 GB RAM :D is a must, isnt it?

I would recommend that you get him a 400W+ PSU, tbh with ya, but 2gig ram is just over the top, if he is only going to use it for music and internet, I would recommend that you get him 1gig at the most, 2gig is more for higher level gamers. The graphics card will be OK for his needs :)
Hope you get a good result :)

cant upgrade the mobo. just cant
i was gonna upgrade the psu
i was thinking 2gb cos i know that he will start more games, also, he leaves limewire on which is very memory hungry.
the motherboard is a msi 6714, skt 478 i think

But if it is only a AGP x4, the graphics will still be very slow, you need to upgrade it, they are not all that expensive, you can get a new Socket 478 for around £35 I believe. But seriously, 2gig ram is overkill, I leave LimeWire running most of the time whilst I'm on games (fair enough I do have a better computer than he does but anyway, I only have 1 gig ram too and I can still play all my games fine)
1gig will be enough, trust me.

AGP X4 isnt slow, it doesnt go half the speed of AGP X8 before anyone says it does, it goes a tiny bit slower, maybe a few fps or so, nothing too noticable tbh.
The motherboard is fine, and upgrading the motherboard to get slightly more power down with a gfx card will be overkill, dont you think?
Ive decided to go for
400W power supply
7600gs
1GB stick RAM

How many DIMM slots does your mobo have?
If you can run your memory in dual channel you should probably look at getting 2x 512mbs instead of one 1gb.

only has 2 slots
good point about dual channel, but both slots are already occupied by 2*256's, and my bro doesnt want to waste em. And he is bigger than me, so what he says, goes
