Hi Guys,

I have a problem with a ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium which I have just built, I put in 2x OCZ 512mb DDR2 667mhz matched pairs, giving me 2gb in total.

When I powered the machine all I got was a long BIOS beep.
I took the RAM out and tried it with one stick in DIMM1 and it booted all the way to Windows.
I turned it off and put another stick in DIMM3, got a long BIOS beep, took the same stick out of DIMM3 and put it in DIMM2 and it works fine.
I then took the stick out of DIMM1 and put it in DIMM3 with nothing else, and it doesnt work, I also tried it in DIMM4, same problem.
So it appears that I have a strange problem with DIMMS 3 & 4,
anyone got any ideas?

The rest of the system spec is:
1x 2.4Ghz Core2Duo Processor
2x Matched pairs of 512mb OCZ DDR2 667mhz RAM
2x Leadtek GeForce 256mb 7800GTXs (SLI'd)
1x WD 36gb Raptor HDD
2x Maxtor 200gb HDDs
1x Pioneer DVR110 DVD Writer

Also probably worth mentioning, I have 2 of these motherboards, the other one was built a few months ago using these exact components and it worked fine, I had to disassemble it because it was needed elsewhere.

Thanks

Richard

have you updated the bios asus boards are really cranky with ram for some reason.

I would second that by saying try BIOS first as well. Asus boards are mega fussy when it comes to RAM

you really want corsair for asus boards, seems to be what people are having the least problems with.

I would also agree with that. Corsair seems to work better on Asus board than OCZ does.

you also mentioned that you have 4 ram sticks, that also tends to run into problems, but if you're still getting problems with 1/2 then its probs faulty stick or you need a bios update.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the suggestions, Ive done the BIOS update and still no luck.

I know the RAM sticks are all alright, they have worked in every other system they have been in, including my fussy Shuttle SD37P2, and they boot when placed individually in the Asus.

I might have some Corsair knocking about somewhere so I may be able to try that, but the very same OCZ memory worked in my other motherboard which is of the same make and model.

hm, does sound odd?
have you tried just 2/1 stick and see what you can do with just them in?

I have tried all the combinations I can think of and the best result is a total of 1gb, which is achieved by 2x 512mbs in DIMMs 1 & 2.

When I bought the motherboard I have, there were known issues with the RAM voltage, that had to be tweaked (up I think) with certain makes of RAM.
This was fixed in a later BIOS I believe,

I bought RAM that was compatible from the start so couldn't really say how to fix it. But it could be a similar issue.
