Recently, my laptop beeps once after I have been using it for a while, then after about another 15 minutes beeps continuously and the caps and num lock lights blink. The only explaination I can think of is that it is overheating - the fan does not seem to come on as it used to.
Is the fan kaput? Or is there some other reason for this?
If it is the fan, I have opened the base of my laptop and the fan looks easy to replace. It says it is 6v, 0.5A- does Novatech sell a replacement??.

If you can see the fan with the case open, does it spin up when you power the laptop on?

If the fan is ok, then it may be a case where the thermal paste had dried up and the heatsink will need reseating.

most common problem that causes laptops to overheat is either
1/ thermal grease on cpu has dried out and doesnt conduct the heat into the heatsink
2/ the heatsink has fluff inside the copper or aluminium heatsink also causing the fan not to dissipate heat properly.
I successfully fixed a friends Toshiba laptop doing both of these.
If you are interested PM me and might be able to point you in the direction of a specialist who can do this for you quite a reasonable price if you live nr Portsmouth.

I've also found a lot of dust can clog up heatsinks and fans and that doesnt help, stick a hover in there and make sure fans can spin freely etc.
