Hi,

I have a executor 6400 (s/n pc-1033vu 7208581-001), inside was the foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_overview.aspx?ID=en-us0000170) motherboard - is the any logical / known reason that a Q6600 (sl9um) would cause the system to lock up with a fresh install of Vista from the Novatech recovery media (and generic MS OEM disks)

BIOS is flashed to current 638F1P46 from foxconn.

If I replace the Q6600 with the E6400 it all starts to work again.. it's supposed to be compatable (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Upload/Compatibility/200708031801040562P9657AA-CPU-20.1.mht).

Any ideas?

/F

I have passed your fault information to Foxconn and i will try and get a fix for this ASAP for you.

It looks like a BIOS issue as we have seen similar issue to this before.

Should hopefully have answer for you Monday / Tuesday.

Thanks John,

Q6600 works on an ASUS board (PB5B Premium), should I phone up support for a case number or anything?

Nope, leave it with me. I have spoken with Foxconn UK FAE directly about this and he has sent a bug report to Foxconn China. As soon as i hear back from them i will let you know

Foxconn China have reproduced the issue with the Q6600 with SL9UM sspec code. They are currently working on BIOS to resolve this. As soon as this is made avaliable i will arrange to get it to you.

Best Regards

I have a BIOS for you now.

I can give this to you in several ways. I can provide just BIOS file and Flash program and you will need to put this on bootable device for flashing.

I can Provide ISO image of bootable CD version of BIOS. You can then make this CD by burning this image to disc and booting your system from it to flash BIOS

or

We can make and post this CD to you.

Which ever you decide can you contact me at john.cooper@novatech.co.uk and i will arrange getting this to you.

Hi John,

At your email suggestion I've run the PC burn testing, the PC has passed all the tests with the new .56 flash, CPU did get a little warm, but I found that if I modify the airflow and cover the side panel vents, the CPU fan has far less work to do. Power supply has also been uprated to a modular NX-8060 and the cabling and the additional fan has helped.

Do you know when you'll have the G0 chip?

Please thank the foxconn people for a resoloution far faster than I was expecting and thank you for your support.

Regards.

Yeah the old Quad Chips can push out a little bit of heat when put under load. Sounds like you got it under control though.

I am currently waiting on information from purchasing about when the G0 Stepping Q6600 will be in stock.

Glad we could assist and i shall pass a message on to Foxconn.

Can you tell me how i can get the Bios upgrade fix for this motherboard , thanks.

I can only find
638F1P46, which i am currently using , but does not solve my issues with Vists freezing at install and boot up.

Please could you contact me at john.cooper@novatech.co.uk

I can then provide you with this BIOS. It is intended for Novatech Product only so please make sure you bought this item from us.

I can either send you BIOS via email if you happy to make your own boot disk to flash your system with that or if you prefer provide your address and we will send you a bootable CD containing the BIOS upgrade.

Please let me know what you would like when you email.
