Been thinking about getting a new graphics card for a long time now, but my friend says that the newer cards require a certain type of motherboard or something, so I was wondering ifanyone can help me out by finding out the latest and best card that I will be able to use on my computer, not sure what details I would need to give you though.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Well most of the new gpu's require a pci express mobo and a pretty decent psu to run them i personally would go for anything less than 8800 gts 320mb which is around £175 from nova. Can u give us the specs on your pc?

lol there is plenty beneath a 8800gts 320mb that he could get for mild gaming there is the 7600gt or the x1650xt from ati or even the x1950pro or gt it depends on his system specs i mean you could still get a few games out of a agp x1650 pro or xt but lyk he said we need ur system specs

yeh, i was looking at the x1650 and x1950 pros, but I wasn't 100% on if my comp could run them:
comp spec:
Windows XP
2048 mb ram
Intel Pentium 4 3.40 ghz
160gb hdd
probably not everything u need so just let me know what to add

yeah that should be a fine system spec but we need to know what motherboard u have? or more precisely what graphics port you have?

Ive got 1 agp port and 3 pci slots

and what psu do you have? If you have a naff one it might be worth buying a pci express mobo new psu and a pci express graphics card as they are a lot cheaper than the agp variants but the x1950 pro and the x1650 xt and pro are good cards on which ever platform

how do you check what psu you have? I have never been able to work that out

open the case and look at the square box at the back of the case, and give us all the numbers

Yes there is plenty but surely why spend near on £100 on some thing that will really be useless on new games when u can spend £175 and at least save upgrading again when every1 goes on about how good crysis is and your only getting 10fps lol. What i should have said is if you want to try and futureproof yourself go for an 8800 if not just go for 1 of the ati cards as they are best for the money!!

so do u need the model number, or the ac inputs/outputs

Not sure if this should be posted here but I was thinking about getting a new gfx card but that would mean getting a new motherboard, psu and things, but I was looking around and wanted to get ur guys opinions on somethings first, the two best gfx card i could find were:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... BFG-88GTXW (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?BFG-88GTXW)
and
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... BFG-88GTX2 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?BFG-88GTX2)
just wanted a second opinion but then i would need a new psu which i found this 1:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... l?ENE-1000 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ENE-1000)
would it be fast enough? then I guess I would need a new motherboard so I was looking at these 4, but again not too sure on what too look for:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... p35655&P=1 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?mbb-p35655&P=1)
and
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... p35675&P=1 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?mbb-p35675&P=1)
and
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... p5n685&P=1 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?mbb-p5n685&P=1)
and
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... p5nq66&P=1 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?mbb-p5nq66&P=1)
just wondering if any of them arre any good and if so which is the best, and if at all it would be worth getting 1 or getting them separetly and then I guess I would need a new case as mine is really bad, so I found this:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... -sopbw&P=1 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?tt-sopbw&P=1)
has more fans than mine which would be ghood but could it use the above and, I don't see any slots for dvd player/rw not sure if it has them though was just looking for suggestions on that front or if anyone knows of anything better.
anyway, if you can just write up some thoughts on the above at get bck to me.
thx.

Right obviously the either of the gtx cards are great i would go for the standard clocked 1 as if you want to overclock it yourself you'll save a few quid. The psu is way over the top a hiper 550w 600w would be just fine to run the system your thinking of, the e6550 bundle would do u just fine also, i take it you have never thought of trying to put the mobo cpu and ram together yourself then?

what do you mean by putting the cpu and ram together???

That psu is way too much
The watercooled gfx card, needs an existing watercooled set-up to connect to, so go for one with a fan
And what jonny2bad is trying to say is that you should put it together yourself, build the computer, not get a bundle, and then you can get exactly what you want, and may end up a tiny bit cheaper

yeah, i have thought of that, but it just seems easier this way to me. Saves me running around looking for things that will fit. And I will still have to build parts of it because the bundle is only the motherboard, processor and fan. And thx for your opinions on the items.

hi,
as theyve already siad, dont get a naff PSU, get a hiper 530 w or higher, i made that mistake and got acheap 550w from novatech, it makes all the difference, even more when it comes to Grfx cards
