Was that error message actually

NTLDR is Missing??

Not seen TDLR Missing before.

06-08-2007, 09:40 AM
yeah in the bottom left hand corner

TDLR is missing, the tower came with a pathetic 20 gb hard drive so i tried (in vain ) to replace it with a larger one i have & it won't accept the H/D

it's my spare pc everything is running on it but i can't stick with a 20gb

check the jumper settings to make the 20gb hard drive master and the larger drive slave

Unplug everything and start with each component individually. Try one hard drive by itself, then add the other, then optical drives etc.

Hi taxation

yep tried that already, with the original 20gb & jumper setting at Master it boots up's & runs fine BUT when i try to replace it with a 120gb it either tells me "error run reboot disc" the usual ctr alt & del

i'm sure it must be something simple :? just can't seem to figure it out with these ribbons

it would prob take less than 15 mins to sort out by a proper tech, but i want to learn & figure this stuff out for myself y'know,

Are you setting the 120GB as a slave??? Or is this going to be a new Master.

If it is a new master to replace the 20gb HDD you say works. Have you installed an OS to the 120GB drive. If so did this go Ok.

If this 120Gb drive is going to be a slave to the 20gb have you sent the jumper as slave and also made sure in the BIOS that the system is booting the 20GB HDD and not trying to boot from the 120gb Slave.

Hi Coops

the 120 gb will be the new master hopefully & i've checked the jumper settings as well it's the only H/D in there at the moment, unfortunately the system won't go past the reboot/set-up

i'll keep perservering coops but i might end up bringing it in & looking like a right clot for something so simple (which is usually the case)

right guys the only H/D in there is the 120gb, jumper settings have been checked but all i get from the system is this:

the system won't let me go any further than this, just ask's for the usual restart :?

Looks like your monitor is mis-aligned and cutting off the 1st letter of each line.

Is the windows installed on that Hard Drive for that machine ?

06-08-2007, 11:36 AM
yes windows is on the small hardrive

apoligise for the previous pic, here's the full size pic of the screen:

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p114/kevlorimer/screenfaultmsg.jpg

i did do a reboot without any H/D in to make sure & it confirmed coz all i got was the usual blue screen asking for the hard drive, so yes windows is on the hardrive, apoligise for the newbie/amateur knowledge on this subject guys

hope this helps

NTLDR is one of the first files your system tried accessing when booting to windows.

the error that you are getting means that windows cant find the file therefor cant boot to windows. this error normally happens when you swap a hard drive with windows on from one motherboard to another or if there is a serious problem with windows.

if the hard drive that you are using already has windows on it from a different system then you would need to wipe and reinstall windows.

if its a brand new hard drive then you will need to install windows before it can boot.

Danno thank u

that explains things a bit better cheers

i think the motherboard will need to be upgraded anyway along with the ram, coz it's too embarrising to publish to be quite honest

if all end fails i'll bring the system in to be checked for suitable upgradewhich will do doubt be the case anyway very soon

thanks guys for all the feedback, much appreciated

This is NTLDR is Missing, Your screen has cut off first letter, hence why Press reads ress =)

Now Going by that picture you only have one HDD connected to the system. The 120GB disk connected on Primary Master.

This drive does not contain a bootable OS hence the error Ntldr is missing. Therefore until you install an OS on this drive your system cannot boot. Did you install the OS on this drive while it was in this system or did you install Windows on this drive when it was in another system.

This error suggests this 120gb does not contain a bootable OS

Hi coops

the OS was installed when the 20gb was installed only but for the short term i'm gonna stick with that untill i can do an upgrade, i'm getting no joy from the 120gb so i'm not gonna bother trying again,. just gonna get 2 new H/D's put in & start from fresh

i'm going wait & upgrade the Motherboard, Ram & get 2 hard drives installed, i'm looking at the bare bundles system from the Aug mag that just arrived this morning

just one question though: how much is it to get the above installed
for example

I am not sure of pricing to do installs but give sales a call and they will be best to advise you on this.

NTLDR is not necessarily 'the end' however requiring a format. The recovry console has tools available that may resolve this (BOOTCFG /DEFAULT)
