I have atx v2.0 motherboard requiring atx 12v supply using 8 pin
and have a 600w psu with only one 4 pin 12v supply
is there any adapter available or do i have to change the psu?
or can i use 4 pin instead of the 8 pin?
Thanks

read the motherboard manual, my motherboard needs a 8pin, but works fine with a 4 pin in the correct space.

Most boards will works fine with the 4pin connected. Please consult your manual for power requirements. I don't believe using an adaptor on the CPU power cable is a good idea as it would allow more power to be drawn down this cable cause its now connected to 8pin than it should be.
If you need to use 8pin power i would recommend getting a PSU that supports it. But as i said you will probably find yours will work fine using just 4. The 8pin CPU power is there as we are moving ATX standard in to the EPS 12V PSU standard for future requirements.
