Yesterday I had Sky HD installed. The engineer has set this up using component leads as the DVI input was being used for my DVD player.

I have tried the Sky HD directly into the TV now using a DVI to HDMI cable and all I get is a picture for 1 second which then flashes off for 2 seconds then back on and off and on etc etc.

Can anyone throw anylight on why this would happen, are there any compatibility issues between this TV and Sky HD.

Thanks in advance.

This is a well known problem with this set and requires it being sent off to have a firmware update to make it compatible. Contact either Novatech, if you bought it from them or repairtech on 0871 8553171 who will arrange for collection and return.
Only trouble is, it means you're without the set for about two weeks. :x

Cheers for that.

Having read through the forum I have seen a bit more about this problem. I live local to Novatech and bought from there so wonder if they will fix it if I take it down there.

Do you know if the lip-sync problems are fixed.

Cheers again

The lip sync problems have not been fixed and as far as I'm aware, never will be.

I don't think Novatech repair the sets, but in the past they have swapped them, don't know if they still do though.

I'll get onto them tomorrow and see where to go from here.

I also have a Hyundai Q321 TV that I purchased last year (nearly one year ago) and this weekend I have arranged to have SKY HD installed. On seeing a few of these comments I became a little bit worried and decided to investigate and so called Novatech. Their response was that they were not aware of any problems but I should contact Repair Tech who would deal with my enquiry. I then contacted Repair Tech and they have told me that they know of no problems with this particular TV other than it needs a conversion lead (HDMI to DVI) and one of their engineers reported that there should not be a problem if I use the correct lead. This seems to contradict what a few other people have been saying about this TV and I am not sure who I should contact if there is a problem.

There are 2 versions of this TV. The original ones had some issues with the SKY HD Box that SKY were installing at the time. I cannot remember exactly which model sky box it was.

The Q321 was then released in a second version to resolve the issue that the first one had with the sky box in question.

The Q321 can be updated to resolve the SKY BOX issue if you set has the issue but does require going in to the repair centre as it needs a chip replaced in the unit.

Hi Cliff

I purchased my Q321 in July 2006. It was advertised as HD Ready which is only partially true as it doesn't work with the Sky HD box that was installed for me last weekend. I contacted Novatech this week and was told that I will have to send it Repairtech to have it flash upgraded. I think it actually needs a new chip.

I am not prepared to do this. Reading around the forums it could take anything up to a month to come back. Add to that a courier (or two actually) who may not be as careful with my TV as I have been. From your call to Repairtech it doesn't sound like they know what to do when it gets there as you say they are unaware of any fault.

I asked Novatech if they would offer a refund if I purchased a new TV from them. They said as it was over a year old that would be highly unlikely. The problem is, you don't realise there is a problem until you get Sky HD. Perhaps some sort of recall needed to be done when the problem was found.

I guess you live and learn.

If you look at this link to the avforums site you'll see that KP (purchasing manager for Novatech) made arrangements for such a thing http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthre ... 4&page=214 (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=293464&page=214).

Unfortunately this was of no use to anyone who didn't know about the forum or the thread and secondly, for some of us (no idea how many) it didn't work at all as Novatech never got back to us after several emails. In my case I didn't have the box, so whether this was a factor or not I don't know, but I have sent emails in the past to Novatech for a couple of things and never got a reply back. It seems you have to come on the forum or telephone them in order to get a reply.

Anyway, back to the set, I sent mine to repairtech, as did many others, for the chip to be updated. This was about 10 months ago. They sent a courier to collect it but I had to wrap it up securely myself with plenty of bubblewrap and cardboard. When it was returned it came back in a box with polystyrene padding, all of which I now keep in the garage, just in case.

The reason I got rid of the box in the first place was because it was sold with a two year on-site warranty which I thought meant they fixed it in your home. However novatech and repairtech and even the Hyundai rep on the avforums thread claimed it had to go in because of a possibility of electrostatic discharge damaging the set if the chip replacement was done in the home.

Sorry for the long post, but it's just to let you know that a lot of us had to go through quite a bit of inconvenience over this set and if you ever have a week or so to spare you could read that avforums thread I linked to and you will see that quite a few people finished up returning their sets and getting a refund.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I presume I will find out If I have a problem tomorrow when SKY HD is going to be installed.

I had SKY HD installed and as expected I could not receive the HD signal (through the HDMI to DVI lead) on my Hyundai TV. I contacted Novatech Technical Support and was told that if I had the original box and packing they would arrange for it to be picked up and modified at their cost. Four hours after my conversation with them, DHL arrived and picked up the parcel. The next day I received a phone call from Novatech to say that the mod had been done and that they were sending the TV back that day.
The result is that I now have a working TV, have only been inconvenienced for a couple of days and can only praise Novatech for their efficiency and friendly manner in dealing with this problem. I do not think other dealers would respond so quickly.

That's not the response I got from Novatech. They basically told me it was nothing to do with them and I had to contact Repairtech for the repair. I have the original packing and can take the TV to them but wasn't offered this very good service.
