Ok, i have a PowerColour HD5770 and have an overclock of 950/1445, and have noticed that my GPU usage never goes over 40% let alone hit 100% which i would like to get some nice PPD.

Now what im wanting to know is if there is a flag to up the usage a bit

I have a similar problem, my 4890 on stock, rarely goes above 80%
i want that extra 20% activity in ppd :)

if your system is what you have written in your sig
maybe your processor and RAM combination is bottlenecking your system
1gb really isnt enough anymore, especially for a 64-bit OS that have a larger footprint then 32-bit sytems

With a system like that - im surprised you haven't got more than 1gb Ram :\

Hmmmm i have a Q6600 8GB of ram and the 4890, why am i not using that last 20%?

no games just F@H. But im not running Windows 7 for folding, the only time i use that now is for... nothing really, i just have everything setup on if for when i upgrade to i5/i7 platforms. I am running windows XP home right now, i found a spare key from a while back that hadn't been used. I stopped using windows 7 because the 1GB RAM was really struggling to just process simple things like MS word and email, so i decided just to partition off with all my programs ready to go when i upgrade.
If i turn the CPU client off CPU usage drops to around 60% with no difference to GPU usage and the RAM is around 50% usage from both clients so i dont particularly thing there is any bottle-necking. If NVIDIA had got DX11 support out quicker then i would have gone with them, but i've had this card for 2 months now and it goes like a rocket in games.

The GPU client is **** for HD5xxx since you have to force RV790 command and thats probably why you only get 60%.
Hopefully GPU3 client will fix this with fullsupport for the HD5xxx series.

I was going to say haven't you a spare PCIE slot you can nail an old 8800 into, I have a P5 mobo & it has several unused PCIE slots, but why spend the cash when you have unused GPU grunt waiting to go, it must be maddening.
This much awaited GPU3 client, does it offer us Nvidia users anything or is it more aimed at ATI users ?

Any ideas as to when it can be acquired?

Here is an update and some more details on the third generation GPU core. As I stated before, this core is built on OpenMM, which brings the science further along and allows us to make easier updates. OpenMM supports OpenCL in beta form in its 1.0 release (scheduled for late January 2010), but it is important to stress that the OpenCL support is very early and so we will not be relying on OpenCL in the first releases of the GPU3 core.
This means that the core will only roll out for NVIDIA first. ATI has depreciated Brook, but does not have a fully-functioning OpenCL implementation, so we are stuck in between support on the ATI side. Once the OpenCL implementation matures (on both ATI and NVIDIA), we will be able to finish and optimize our OpenCL code (we can't reliably optimize code until the implementations are more finalized), and then the OpenCL portions will go into QA.
So, if you are interested in OpenCL (especially in terms of ATI support), this will not be in the initial release, but once the environment has matured, we will push forward. By the way, once OpenCL support for multi-core boxes has matured, we will also see about porting the GPU3 code as a new SMP2 style core as well (i.e. threads-based SMP support). If the performance is strong, it's appealing to think that we can go back to having a single dominant code base for much of FAH's calculations.
This was posted in FaH's Code Developments page on 13 January 2010, looks like be a while yet for those with ATI cards.

lol :) it does seem that the GPU3 client is solely aimed at ATi users, nope i dont have any spare PCI slots, all are being use. I only have an old mATX 775 board will support for 2GB RAM and Dual Cores. Looking to get a i5/i7 within the next few months.

I have a spare pci slot, but its kinda covered by my existing card and a wireless card lol, not enough space :)

It depends on the WUs, my GTX 260s are sometimes under 100% or fluctuating usage between 20-80% depending on the WUs. But it may also be the ATI client it it's not fully utilizing the GPU on any WUs.

what drivers are you using mines always at 99% when folding

10.2 i think, that should tell you but i cant work that out :)
although my low GPU usage i think is because of my CPU, as ATi cards use a lot more CPU power than NIVIDA and the GPU can only use 1 core of the CPU i think its becoming a bottleneck and 1 core is always at 100% and the other just flickers between 0-100% depending on what i am doing, also i have stopped running the CPU client and there has been a noticeable difference in PPD i have been getting, so i have continued to fold on my GPU only and i have seen a lot more PPD out of the GPU. When i run the CPU client my GPU usage drops to around 40% and yet when i turn the CPU client off the GPU pops up noticeably to around 70%
Ghost town at 8AM :( im scared
