Radio keeps cutting out

I am trying to use my laptop as my radio player. When I connect to differing radio stations via the internet the signal is clear but then starts to cut out for longer periods. What would be the reasons for this? I seem to have a strong internet connection. Would buying a digital TV/Radio antena for the USB port sort this out? Does radio via the interent tend to cut out like this?

If the connection further down the "line" is slow then you will get poor quality or cut outs as the information catches up with itself (known as buffering).
There's not really much you can do about this. Buying a digital antenna would enable you to receive terrestrial signals, but wouldn't enhance online broadcasts. :)

But the digital antenna would allow me to pick up digital stations, i.e BBC 6 and talk sports/five live....just not on line?

Yup.
Google for "DAB USB Radio". You should get some decent results.
