out of curiocity which would perform better, having more ram, or higher bandwidth?
for instance ddr3, 1800mhz, 4gb vs ddr2 800mhz 8gb.
i dont fully understand bandwidth, could someone explain?
cheers.

isnt ddr3 3x mhz bus thing if u get me so its 1800mhz effective but actually 600mhz or sumthin and then ddr2 800 is actually 400mhz i dno i could be rambling but i dno

Your really worrying about about nothing Tek the difference between going over ddr2 667 or 800 or 1066 in actual performance is nothing, try running 3dmark on 667 then on 1000 and see. And more ram will always be better than bandwith i would have thought!

yup, i did a little research, and ram @ 1250mhz only got 1fps more than 800mhz, so its really nothing to spend money on.
you only needed high bandwidth memory for overclocks where the board wouldnt let you change the mem divider (dowdalls) but now its a speed thing, that isnt needed.
i got 50 points going from 850mhz to 970mhz, nothing im gonna notice.
i just pray nforce 7 is ddr2 compatiable, otherwise i cant afford to upgrade.

lol, thats a good one actually.
on a serious note, how long do you think itll be before 4gb of ram isnt enough? im contemplating 2x2gb or 4x1gb?

urrr when 64bit OS's go big which according to public ignorance could be a while

4GB is a whole lot of space, and seeing that some companies are developing different ways of displaying textures etc , i cant remember where but i read that a company made a way of getting big textures 50% smaller with NO drop in performance whatso ever, there was in some cases an increase in performance with load times etc

errm, so would 4gb ocz plat @ £64 be a good idea?

Wouldnt risk them on a striker board though asus boards are a nightmare for ram!!

Also its not only public ignorance for 64 bit os's there is a big compatibilty issue with many things still on these sytems.

2) 800 4-4-4-12, defo d9's...
