OK, so after a few posts and a few ideas from some mates I think I know what sort of stuff I need...

http://forum.novatech.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=1971&stc=1&d=1268683902

Im looking to keep the i5 and the case, but looking to save money on the other stuff.

around the £600 mark would be best but a bit over would bother me :)

btw, I want to use this for gaming, and the budget doesnt include OS, Monitor, Keyboard, ect, just the rig.

Please help...

Thanks

Was looking at this,

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/Graphics-ATI/ATIHD4850Series/48501GB.html

but people I've spoken to have different opinions on nVidia vs ATI, so Im not sure what to go for

I'd get a 5770 and a branded power supply

does it make a difference which one?

you get what you pay for with power supplies really, I'd get at least the OCZ 500W, but ideally get the corsair 650W to allow future upgrades

Definately go ATi, best for the price. Get a corsair PSU, the packaging is amazing and so is the product.

So change the graphics to the 5770 and get the corsair 650W PSU.

But what could I save money on? Different motherboard, different RAM...?

The memory and mobo is solid, but you don't need such a good mobo, I'll just have a peek at a nice one. Sec.

not exactly sure, as your budget confused me. you stated £600, but the picture showed £800. but anyway, for £800, heres the best i could do:

better hard drive, cheaper case, better power supply. and MUCH bettwer graphics card

5770 > 5850 for that rig tbh.

I disagree, a 5850 would be sweet in that machine, depends on screen size though, the 5850 is only worth it on 24"+

Thing is, my 5850 eats EVERYTHING i've ever thrown at it. I personally don't see the need to get it unless you play crysis 24/7 or similar. Plus you can quite easily get another 5770 if one doesnt sate your needs and it takes the shock of spending so much money away.

fasir enough, but this way later down the line IF you need the extra juice you can get another 5850

Could save a bit by getting some things (namely graphics card) elsewhere, could get a 5770 Vapour X for that price.

but i agree that if you want to try and get closer to the £600 budget it's worth getting the 5770 instead

Would the rest be the same if I swapped the AMD for the i5?

just a question. why do you want intel for a gaming machine, considering amd have exact same gaming performance, yet cost alot less?

sorry, forgot to say at the start of the thread, im not really computer savvy, i know the basics and thats about it, im just going off what others have told me. Most of the people I've spoke to have said not to go for AMD but didnt back it up as to why...

times have changed. in the core 2 era, intel dominated across the board bar the low cost setups. nowadays, amd are just as good as intel for gamers. only people who are media encoding should choose intel (Mainly the i7's)

in that matter, could you put together a decent gaming pc using the Antec 1200 for around £600 - £700?

Its just so hard to choose what to get lol :)

do you really need the antec 1200. if you like the looks, go for the 902, its the same just 1 less front + back fan. same looks.

here you are then. when you need the extra fps, just add in another 5770 for xfire

they do take up 2 slots, and i cannot think why it would be a problem unless you really need the slot that it occupies, but motherboard makers are usually good enough to put other important ones at the end

OK then, by the looks of things your setup is the best way to go, but would you say its better that the iRush Pro? http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/irush.html

in terms of gaming, around the same. however, the build i spec'd above has the advantage of being upgraded. also, the irush-pro does not use the antec 902 that you really want

OK, think im gonna go ahead and place an order tomorrow, just another little question as I seen you have the Antec 900. Is it possible to connect the fans up to, and insert one of these, http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/Cooling/FanControllers/Aerocool/EN55345.html into the case.

I like the looks of them too :)

i do not believe so, as the antec cases use a molex connecter to get power, and do not use the 3pin fan system

AH, just found you can get converters from molex to 3 pin, meaning it might work, but doesnt the Antec fans have switches at the back already?

just messaged you about it, and yes, they do have a fan controll on the back

for the motherboard bundle, i would replace it with this:

CPU: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?AMD-P29652

Motherboard: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ASU-M4ATDV

Ram: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?GSK-4G16C9

because that mobo has 2 pci-e, you can easily crossfire the 5770's later in life

ok thanks

so with them from the pm i could connect the fan controller to the fans yes? Would that be an easy job to disconnect the fans from the switches at the back and put them in the controller or is it just a case of unplugging them and plugging them into this?

the switches and power connectors are different cables. you just plug the fan into the adapter, and the adapter into the fan controller and bobs your uncle, it works!

Perhaps, i've just never associated an Antec case with sophistication.
