View Full Version : rebooting/start up?

just a minor small question:

whats the quickest way to get ur system to boot up, thru the (hdd-0) OR the the (floppy) as my system seems to take a few minutes to boot up, i've just checked my bios & it's set to hdd-0? the system is running ok so i don't wanna mess about with it too much

i was gonna check the clocking speed & adjust it but decided against it

what can people recommend?

you dont want to boot through floppy :S
some systems just take a while to boot, my old pc took 1 swoop (blue bar on xp when booting) and my new one (see signature) takes 13!!
just one of those things

cheers for the fast reply tecknokid it's appreciated,

lastly i don't play games (at the moment anyway) just D/L files music & stuff

i want to upgrade my motherboard & processor whicH is a K7 Triton
GA-7VT600 (-L) & amd athlon 3200+ (not dual core i know  )

my budget at the moment is about £100-150 max what can be recommended for an upgrade

i know there's a big competition between AMD & INTEL but i wanna stick with AMD atm, & going the full hog of a quad core for my needs would be throwing money away atm so any recomendations are welcome as i'm baffled at what to go for next

in the bios you can select "quick boot" on most systems
Changing boot priority from hard drive to floppy wont make that much difference, maybe half a second

the best bang for buck you will get is intel, you said you wanted to stay amd but they just dont compete. get an intel pentium e2140 and a cheap intel mobo. a gig of ram and overclock, your away, a stonking system.

cheers tecknokid for the info i'm a bit wary of intel still as my old sony laptop was intel & just i kept on having problems,

i'll do some homework and "might" treat myself to the intel upgrade once i see one a at a decent price

my current system is 2.2ghz so i wanna improve at least a little bit on that  along with about 2gb of ram as the current one is only 512

thanks guys for the advice

for £150 you cant do much, but if you can overclock intel is the way to go, u can get 3ghz from a £50 chip.

first of all, going dual core for what you want to do, is a no no, waste of money!
If all your doing is downloading etc, then a fresh install of windows will make your system go faster and seem like new.
Overclocking, for a £50 chip to go 3ghz, you need some decent RAM or dividers so large that the overclock wouldnt actually make a difference.
If you want to go on the cheap cheap, check out the old AMD's, either on ebay or online.
Or if you still want decent stuff, then go AMD X2 AM2, they are very very cheap at the moment, and perform quite nicely for what you need.

And tekno, they threw the pentium brand out the window!!

Bloody Nora, they bought that back
Why would they do that??
Back to basics then aint it.

and pardon my ignorance about the pentium brand, as ive been in AMD land since my first computer and dont care much for intel

lol, its a new thing, you cant know everything lol, like me, i know bloody all about water cooling so cheers 4 the replys on that front.
the new pentium chip is pretty fast, i would recomend it for £50 and every review so far has hit 3ghz or so.
