Hi,

I may have posted a thread sometime ago regarding the issues I'm having with sfc /scannow,but its still there, and I'm now getting rather annoyed,so any help would be appreciated please.

Right,I have XP Media which came with SP2.I have updated to SP3.

When sfc /scannow is run,I am prompted to insert the disc.My original disc is not accepted.I have used a XPSP2 & XPSP3 disc, still the same.

I have edited the registry to change the current source path from H: to C: .Still the prompt for the disc is displayed.

I have copied the complete I386 folder to C:,and guess what......yet again the annoying message requesting the disc is once again displayed.

So I'm back to asking for more advice from the gurus who use this wonderful forum for help.

Pretty please ;-)

Regards

I've played around with scannow when trying to fix a flaky install. It takes some hacking. Since it compares your current Windows files with the originals on the install disk to correct drive and file errors, I really don't see it as being very useful since most of the files have been modified by windows update.

I'd suggest a repair install which is offered at about the 4th screen of the install process in XP. That should preserve file structure. But you then need to reinstall drivers and do all the updates again.

Really it's better to have a second drive available in these situations for backup or a fresh install. :)

D'oh. Old thread. LOL
